I've got a Remington 597 .22 and a Mossberg 500 12ga.

I turned 21 earlier this year so i'll be getting a handgun of some sort shortly. Already have my lifetime CCW.

Geez.  Getting a CCW in California is like finding a purple unicorn.
Do you mean it's easier if you're on drugs?  It's equally impossible here in NJ.

I'm impressed....  Currently I've only got a 22 that my Dad gave me when I was old enough to hold both ends off the ground.....  and a revolver.....

When it comes to shooting.... I've fired quite and array of things... to include an M60A1 Tank, a Series of Hellfires missles and freaking boat load of 2.75" folding fin aerial rockets..... ( I taught folks to fly both the Cobra and Apache attack helicopters )

Machine guns sighted by eye from a 7.62 Mini gun to a 30mm Cannon.....

By far the best of all was a 6 barrelled Cannon strapped to the wing of an Old school G Model Cobra....  Front seater had to hold the Canopy latch and the helicopter would literally slow down in a dive when you pulled the trigger....  Every single burst ripped rivets from the Tail boom...... the only real skill was deciding how many rivets were " To " Many to loose...  ( okay it wasn't quite that bad, but Damn it was Fun,   like watching Fourteen Mo Fo's eat a Ham Sandwich "

Still contemplating my first purchase, but went out with some friends last weekend and here's what I personally fired:

Bushmaster XM-15E2S w/iron sights
Savage .22LR bolt action
Colt/Umarex .22 AR w/magnified optic
Hi-Point 9mm carbine
Long barreled Yugo AK47 with Tech Sights
Semi-auto BAR
Mosin Nagant M44 carbine
Marlin .45-70 Guide Gun
Remington 870 w/ Knoxx stock
Henry Golden Boy 22cal
Sig SP2022 9mm pistol
Luger P89 DC 9mm pistol
Match grade Springfield 1911 with pachmayr grip
Colt AR15
Mosin Nagant 91/30
Springfield XD 9mm
Springfield XDM 9mm

Ran out of time before I was able to get to all of the toys :(  The BAR was particularly enjoyable to drive, and I was loving me some Mosin Nagant action (interestingly the m44 had better accuracy with the bayonet extended).  The sound of the action on the AR15 took me back to my childhood when dad would take my brother and me to the range at Ft Bragg.

the m44s are originally sighted in with the bayonet extended..throws the "balance" off when you have it folded in, lightens the front end and shoots high. if you're actually using it for it's intended purpose (killin Nazis), you should have the bayo out all the time. My m38 is the same size but without the folding bayonet. Cool carbine, but after about 30 or 40 rounds, I get a nice purple shoulder...apparently you're also supposed to dress like you're in Siberia, a recoil pad really helps. Really like those Hi-Point carbines tho..next on my list (in .40S&W) after a decent shotgun. Currently thinking about a Saiga 12ga semi auto with a 20 round drum.. :o

Yup, had heard that before but it was interesting to learn it with my hands rather than just with my head.

but after about 30 or 40 rounds, I get a nice purple shoulder...

Ha ha that's for sure.  My bruises have faded as of today :)  I actually preferred the 91/30, weighed a ton but less muzzle rise.  I'm considering buying one because they're so affordable and fun to shoot.  Would be happy with either variant I think.  OTOH the wife really enjoyed the savage and that'd be cheaper in the long run what with the cost of .22 ammo.

Speaking of Mosin Nagants, I got a laugh outta this pic recently:

heh...yeah! nothing quite like the muzzle blast of an m38 or m44 in the late evening... put a few burn spots in my lawn on the 4th of July that way  ;D  couldn't even imagine shooting THAT thing...I really like my 91/30s too, but haven't had them out in a while, definitely lots cheaper shooting .22s just for fun. they're even getting more expensive, just a couple yrs ago the 525 round box of Remington Goldens was $7.99 at Bi-Mart, now they're like $15.....
seen these?

not exactly sure what this is, some videos say .577 t-rex, others say .700 nitro express...whatever it is, it's monstrous...

Hilarious, ludicrous even  :D

I fired some guy's .50 cal Desert Eagle a few months back.  Fired all of two rounds through it, on the second shot the recoil flipped the gun up such that the ejected casing caught me right in the forehead.  It hit edge-first, leaving a nice half-moon scar that took weeks to fade.  I laughed and put the gun down.

Marlin .45-70 Guide Gun
Ive put a few boxes through the marlin 45-70. Its got a nice muzzle flash at dusk also. It will knock em down too. Thats a great all around big game lever gun from small whitetails to big bears Im sure, and its quick handling. Ammo is steep$.

This is from a recent outing with my Mauser action 7mm. Barnes TSX 140 gr at 3150 fps.
This was shot with a fixed 4 power M8 scope and it's my best group this year. Of course there are also times I can't find my ass with both hands...
I've also been spotted at the range with a Douglas barreled MK5 .338 Remington Ultra Mag, a .300 WBY Vanguard, a Model 70 .375 H&H; then there's the Ithaca Mag-10 gas operated 10 gauge waterfowler, 'old faithful' 1956 870, and the Damascas barreled, double hammer 10 gauge NITROHUNTER...

I dig it. Not sure why, but I do. I would have left room on the muzzle for the bayonet though.

The Obrez was apparently used by some during the Russian revolution, for concealability.  I'm thinking the one I posted was a historical example and yes, doesn't appear to have a bolt installed.

Neat!

I've been hunting with a bow my whole life and just finally got my PAL this past summer... (Possesion and Aquisition License...Non-Restricted) ...basically only allowed long guns, and no fully-autos.   I shot a lot as a kid with the old man...but mid-highschool age...he got rid of all his guns (gave them to family members for safekeeping...because we have the "gun registry" up here now...and my ol'man was stubborn and wanted no part of that!) But shooting is a blast!

I have now:

-.300 Win. Mag Mossberg 4x4 w/ 3x9 scope(my first purchased rifle)....that one's a hoot! and can't wait to find a moose for it.
-Single shot 12 Ga. Break action - C.I.L. (mid 70's)
-Ruger 10/22 Carbine with scope (that's my grouse gun...it makes me feel like a sniper...hehe)
-Cooey Model 75 single shot .22 (1939-41)...just referbished...it was fun....and my wife loves it for grouse.
-2 Cooey Model 60's bolt action repeaters (1940-45)...they both need work...

Next...I want a pump/semi 12GA. to get into duck hunting!
