charging system issues with '97 Suzuki 1200s Bandit/GSF1200

Hi guys,
I'm not so familiar with new bikes and need some help. After some repairs and installing a after market headlight, since the fairing's gone, I went to start her up and it wouldn't turn over because I didn't have the choke on. Trying to start it a several times killed my battery. Charged the battery, with the choke on this time, and it started right up and ran for a minute. Turned it off and buttoned my bike the rest of the way up, aired the tires and geared up for a ride. This time the bike wouldn't start. Charged the battery up and it started no problem. But once I got to my destination it wouldn't start again, acting as if the battery was dead with the headlight bright and the indicator lights well lit. When I get her home I plan to see if the battery is getting charged by the charging system, but what else can I do/check? Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

If you figure it out let me know. My 96 Bandit started doing that this weekend down in Birmingham for the Vintage Festival. It would start when cold but would not restart. Had to bump start it 3 or 4 times this weekend. It made getting fuel interesting.

Common thoughts from the guys I was riding with is bad battery. I got unpacked and did not feel like messing with it but I will look into it later this week.
