Basically the whole bike is simple until you get into it like the folks in the HiPo forum.  The simple part makes it fun for me.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

There are still a few parts that I am anxious about getting into but should probably figure out soon. like making sure the chain and cam chain are tightened/lubed.

I picked up Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I was expecting more of a motorcycle owners guide. This book is very interesting. I'm only about half way through it. He does some adjustments on the road that I feel like I should be able to do.

Didnt get to work on the bike today. So I took my practice tank to my old lady's mom's used car lot and went to town with some duplicolor. She has a spray gun but I dont think I will have time to learn how to use it properly. More confident with the spray cans. Might still see if I can get some clear coat mixed up from napa or something. This is what I ended up with. I rushed through it. I really just wanted to see if the colors were good and to make sure my decal didnt bubble off. I tried a a pinstripe, but didnt wait for it to dry and it peeled off part of it.

I think I like the color with the decal. The clear coat makes me a little nervous but, as cheap as this will be this time I cant complain.

silly attempt at blending.

The practice is good for you.   Good to know if you like it first, lol.

Finished a ton of work on the bike.  Waiting for the weekend to clean the carbs again (3rd time) and it should be the last.  Getting an ultrasonic cleaner on Saturday with the 25% coupon I got from HF.

My aunt got me a neat little hobby airbrush for christmas. I played around with it a little, but couldnt get the fine spray dialed in correctly. I think I have watched all this guys videos. He has several for beginners that look pretty sick.

I think it would be pretty cool to do the torn metal with a crazy reptilian eye instead of the race flag. He shows how to do a simple skull in one of the videos too. I plan on practicing more with that before I try anything on a tank.

hooray... need to check all my wiring. While doing the fork seals we just left the headlight hanging and it pulled connections loose. Some of them are spliced 3 times.

Your PO got to yours too!  Best thing is to use the wiring diagram.  That pic you have there blows up big but is blurry.

This one is for a K1 but it is helpful when you turn on and off the circuits.  http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/wiring750K1.html

One on here should cover your bike.  http://www.oldmanhonda.com/MC/WiringDiagrams/MCwiring.php#class

Thanks Mr. TipperT to You!,

its dark in the garage and there isnt anything but a droplight for light in there. so blurry pics. My dad poked around on it while I was gone and looks like he just disconnected everything...

That second link lead me to a good diagram. the manual I have downloaded is not color coded and blurry.

decided since I was going to be in that area to go ahead and setup the handlebars. the clubmans feel surprisingly good. I have a set of european ones just in case, and ran them externally so that I can swap out the stock ones for trips. Notching the controls was a pain in the ass. Think ill be putting some kind of sealant on there in case I get caught in the rain.

took the headlight bucket off and spent a while just looking at the wires. getting to know this old broad better. I'm estimating only 4-5 wires are not color matched. Almost all the ones from the handlebars were.

Figured I should go ahead and paint the bucket while I am at it. Its hard to just do one thing. Aircraft spraypaint stripper is terrible, mucked up my plastic. Filler primer hid most of it. Im using duplicolor wheel clear coat. its got really good reviews for holding up against chips and chemicals. Guess Ill see how it goes.

have to let it cure for a couple hours before I want to run wires through it though. If I dont get the wires figured out I'll just have to put her on the trailer for the wheels tomorrow.

Finally got my integrated tail light in. two cat eyes packed with LEDs, going to get that put into my seat tomorrow. Pretty excited about that.

Aircraft stripper is for aluminum! [I've used it to get the clear off my engine covers]. Bucket looks good now.

Not sure of the temps in Midland, but you shouldn't paint below 60 degrees.

I just did the bucket at the house. The rest will be at their car shop. I wish they had a body shop, could get the hookup on all this painting. but its just a used car lot. The garage up there is heated though.

It's too cold to paint.  I am ready to paint momma's tank, side covers and viper fairing and it's driving me nuts!

Stupid planet all on its other axis while were trying to paint. Hey at least we dont have 30in of snow. 60 degrees is cold enough for me.

I took my bike to the guy to get the tires on it. Had to trailer it.

The FIRST thing he says to me is, "these bikes arent worth working on because there is always something wrong"... I couldnt believe it. If the bike was running I wouldnt have left it there. As it is I didnt have much of a choice. I was dumbfounded. Couldnt  believe it.

Anyway, tomorrow I am going to hit it again trying to work the wiring out. I dont have power on my middle fuse, on either side. I should have something on one side or the other even if the fuse is out right?

Thanks Tipper.

I am going to replace that fuse to see if that does the trick then follow it up and make sure power is getting up there.

That guy is an idiot - if you're restoring a bike, of course there is something to work on. If we didn't want that, we would buy a new honda!

Tipper - why you painting? Last pic I saw of your K5 it looked great!

Well, to try and be short and not hijack the thread, the PO had some bad red liner, I stripped it and put POR-15 in.  That did not stick so I had to do it again.  I used a big funnel to pore their stripper in the second time but it followed the can and on the paint.  And, her side covers were crumbling too.

It seemed really rude to me. And bad customer service. I wont be taking it back to him.

dont worry about hijacking. If its about motorcycles I probably dont know it and could use the input. Ive wondered about the POR but my tank is in good shape. If it gets down into the engine what might happen? I guess you dont have a choice if the tank leaks or if someone had already put a liner in.

I dunno what would happen if it got down into the engine.  I know what it does when it gets into the carbs tho.  It make the throttle sticky and then the throttle freezes and clogs everything else in it.  It was flowing into the head, I cleaned that out this last week.

I'll be heading home tomorrow.

Still need to get some things figured out though. Like WIRING >:(

and mounting the seat, lacing up my new seat cover. The last three days I have been painting and helping my aunt sew the seat cover. It turned out really good.

I dont have a picture of the seat cover but when I get it on the bike Ill get one.

I am definitely saving up for a professional paint job. That was a pain in the ass.
