Jeep coil to test my Yamaha LS2?
« on: March 08, 2006, 08:54:24 AM »
I'm working on a 1972 Yamaha LS2 2-stroke twin 100CC!

I got the carbs, clutch, brakes, tank, everything fixed. New plugs, points, condensers... I'm only getting one cylinder to fire. I wanted to try hooking up a new coil. Can I use a automotive coil for testing? I have coils from MSD and from stock 4.0l Jeep. Can I use these to test (or permanently)?

I could always try swapping them, but I'd rather not mess with the cylinder that is working.

Thanks!

you can use the auto coil to test with,as far as permanently using it would depend on the resistance situation.you will need to know if the yamaha requires an internal resistance coil or external resistance coil and then check your auto coils, the resistance numbers should be darn close.

Good to know that someone has one of those LS2s. I had one quite some time back. Pretty decent looking bike AND it would haul me pretty well at the same time. Kinda reminded me of a "Baby" R5 Yamaha. ;)
