Just Got Back From Alabama!
« on: October 10, 2010, 06:41:01 PM »

Had a hell of a time getting things together so we could GET there! But we left out Friday morning (about a couple of hours later that I had hoped. But were finally able to get away about 11:00 and got almost there by around 8 or 8:30. Got a room right away (wasn't the best, but seemed clean and decent, was pretty small. But we slept okay and was only about 30-45 minutes away. Got checked in and got the car parked, but then realized that it wasn't going to be possible for Karla to get on the Tram (she can't raise her legs that high and her balance isn't good either. Had Gordon's (Ilbikes) cell number and he came over and took us to the area where he was operating out of. I could see that this was going to be a real setback. Then it was suggested to rent a Golf Cart and so I set out to check that out and as you might know, they were all rented out. I knew that there would be a fair amount of walking, but I didn't realize just how hilly it was. My Dad managed to see SOME of the Bikes in the area where the Gordon and the VJMC was setup and I managed to be able to get him up to the museum, with some assist from Gordon again and see a good amount of the motorcycles there, especially the OLD Indians. I've got a few pictures of the bikes, I tried to get HIM in the Indian pictures, but not with HIM in there.

When  my Daughter FINALLY realized just how much walking there would be, she was content to stay in the car w/ her laptop, some hand held games and the A/C going. I didn't get to see anyone else (did get to finally meet Gordon & owe him a TON for his efforts). John (jtb) got over to see my Dad and Karla and I got to talk to him on the phone (WE had already met when he was very instrumental in working with Kirk [kirkn] and John's buddy, in getting my 250 Jawa engine I had bought off of ebay, to West Memphis where I could meet him and get IT). Sure was hoping to meet the rest of those who went & Greg (ohiocaferacer). Already working on plans for NEXT year, in which case we plan to be there all weekend AND arrange (ahead of time) for a golf cart. All in all, it was a GREAT experience and I saw more motorcycles in one place than I had seen in my While Life! Might even consider bringing stuff for the swap meet (not sure about that).

AWESOME EVENT! I'll try to post the pictures later tomorrow. I am BUSHED!  ::)

AND A Big Thank You To Gordon (Ilbikes)!

We had a great time.... sold 3 bikes... and hung out with some old friends .... made several new ones.... and got to meet Trav-i and Fabricator.... ( like to spend more time with both... nice guys )

Had a ton of folks wanting to buy junk Saturday morning and got wrapped up in getting the Z1 running..... ended up missing pancakes..... ( which actually bothered me... Breakfast with the VJMC is one of the better events... )

Life is good...

I agree.  I had a blast, wish I could have stayed for all three days.  I got to meet a bunch of great forum members while I was there, including Gordon (ibikes), Greg from Ohio Cafe Racers, fastbroshi, tugboat, keith turk, old scrambler, john (jtb), MidTNJason, and got to see a few I have already met.  I'm already looking foward to next year, and getting to meet even more new people from here.

Hey Bill sorry I missed ya, I really wanted to meet you.  I held out as long as I could before we had to pack up and head back.  Hopefully We can meet up next year.

Plus there are some pictures up in the Barber thread from MidTNJason who camped with us.  When I get time I will post some that I have as well.

Yeah Gordon really took care of US and HIS bikes Are "Perfection", aren't they?

I was really looking forward to meeting up with you all, but it just wasn't to be, I guess. And NEXT year, I'm planning to be coming in the entire weekend and surely I can manage to catch up with you all then.  ;)  AWESOME Event and the VJMC sure does things right!  8)

Spent all weekend as a vendor at the swap meet.  Sold my '76 black-n-white Goldwing on Sunday morning...  I'm sure a lot of you guys saw it as you walked down the D isle, it was getting a lot of lookers but not a lot of offers  ;D

And I saw a guy riding around the vendor area on a beautiful gold CB750.  I assumed it was probably one of you guys.

Dan... I tried desperately to convince you NOT to sell it to me.... then I went and conned my riding partner into buying it....  which of course Willie did....

Hey it was genuinely nice to meet you Dan.... now that I know who you are.... LOL

He called to thank me for talking him into it... He'd just got back from a ride and loves the dang thing....

It's funny cause we'd really been talking at length about a Cafe'd Wing... and frankly the bike is YOU....  I'm to small for it however I found it to be incredible at low speeds so Size didn't matter in this case...

Anywho.... Willie is a Happy camper.......   ( I just really wanted you to keep it.... the bike was YOU )

Hey, Dan! It's Willie (guy that bought your 'wing). Put 80+ miles on her couple days ago... LOVE THE BIKE! She has a good home and will get plenty of TLC . Thanx again, Willie

It's awesome that the bike worked out for you!  I know you'll take care of her  :)

I'm sticking with the XS850 for now, but eventually I will be working my way into something new...
