Actually, we do all sound a bit like Paul Hogan (Croc Dundee) but I don't think that's a bad thing, I'm quite proud of being Australian, but I do remember when I did my first "European Vacation" in 1974, a lot of folks thought we were Americans?

My Dad and I visited the Tower of London and were both busting for a pisss, and the old English guy who'd just finished cleaning the facility wasn't keen on us coming in and messing up his "office". My dad asked him if we could come in, and he said, "Are you Americans?" and Dad said, "No mate, we're Aussies", and he let right us in. I didn't understand the "Brits vs Yanks" thing back then, but I sure was glad that I was from Melbourne, and not Minneapolis! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I've been following this and some of you folks are simply hilarious...  Of course they all have an accent... cept the one's from America down there....  they speak english.... Not like the brits ...

Anyway... as an MSF instructor I teach ATGATT however... I'm only required to wear it on the way to and while teaching.... after that it's my personal choice like it is yours...  on each ride...  We all get to determine the level of risk we wish to accept... especially in those states without Helmet laws....  and as we assess the risk we determine the amount of gear we chose to wear while riding that day...   ( All The Gear All The Time )

If you start out wearing a Helmet in a Helmet law state and ride into a "non" helmet state and take your junk off....   I'd call you a complete fool....  ( Read Not a single part missing)  Simply stated it's a part of your safety gear and you had it immediately available just prior to stuffing your head into the back of that parked car....    However if you take off from home on the way to the grocery store 1 mile away in shorts and a T-shirt.... that's your choice... unless you live in a NANNY State...

I want the Government out of my personal decisions about risk assessment.... that's my junk.... not some non-riding Bugeye'd winch.....

K.  ( 1 mile = 1.6 Kiliometers,  People jumping out of airplanes leave faster when pushed smartly in the middle of the back )

as the turk said, personal risk assessment,,,,it seems though, that lots of boffins who dont or ever have ridden bikes set these rules/laws upon us,its a freedom thing, ill always wear a full face, and jeans and gloves, and an old style/type leather jacket, even when its hot,ive ridden bikes on a test run up and down my street in shorts and no helmet sure,we all have and i will again, its my risk assessment, and against the law i know, but using my inbuilt self preservation technogly versus laziness over practicalness allowed me to do this and succeed in not hurting anyone or my self(self last others first)it peeves me to see scooter riders who are obviously not motorcylists and no doubt consider themselves apart because its not a bike? zigzag on under powered bad handling things in bathing costumes next to big black suv type cars with black windows and someone on the phone driving it ,and thinking theyre in control?i dont want to get shoehorned in with this crowd in the goverments eyes!,ill wear what i want when i know i need it thanks.

Many years back I rode to my state's capital with a group of guys.  We are a helmet-option state, but since we were going to be on the highway a lot I strapped mine on.

At one point on of the guys in the group said to me "Are you really going to wear that brain bucket?"

I shrugged and said "Freedom of choice, right?"

He didn't have a response to that :)

I will keep looking for an armored jacket since I figure the few things I need to heal up from the better. NY has had a helmet law since the late 1960s so it just seems normal. Eye protection I agree with since I cannot drive my car without a windshield either, and I don't need a guy on a bike in front of me going out of control. When you get to clothing, that would not sit well with me.

Some State like NY or maybe Cali may try it. Won't get far.

I think more of you Aussies are like this guy then Paul Hogan.  Especially when he tells his story of being in Amsterdam.

And of course "Up Gunta Up".

G'Day Bobby, any of the "name brand" ones will be good, or if you want the absolute best, buy a BMW touring jacket, they're awfully expensive, but there's nothing around that's better. Only thing is, it'll have a BMW badge on it. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Bobby, here's the jacket I bought and I love it! I'm a big guy (6' 3", 300lbs. & 38" sleeves) that has a hard time finding anything that fits. This came with all the padding and is adjustable many way's for the right fit. Seems to be very good quality too. The link isn't where I bought mine though, (I bought locally) but is given just as an example. I would definitely check out their stuff if I was you, you may find something you like.  ;) :)

I like this "Butt-freezer" jacket, it's similar to my Triumph mesh jacket in style, but for cooler weather, I'd want more of a touring style jacket, with excellent water proof qualities like this one. Modern materials aside, not much has improved since the old Army Bush Jacket design of the 1960's Bobby! ;D

If by 'butt-freezer' Terry, you're referring to the short style of this jacket, it's actually longer in the back and seems to cover the old 'plumbers crack' just fine.  ;D  I do, very much, like that style of jacket you posted and would like to find me one of those too.
Now where the hell did Booby get off to?  ;D :D
