Picked up a set of aluminum wheels (F&R) off of a 76 750 A with 9000 miles on the clock today on ebay.....in good shape too ;D   way better than mine anyway. Hubs and spokes look real good.

Wondering if there is anything special I need to do for the swap....ie.. axles, bearings, etc. Im hoping everything is the same.

To the best of my knowledge swapping the wheel assemblies from the spoked wheeled auto to the 77/78K bikes is pretty much trouble free.  I believe the auto's 19" front wheel and the 17" rear wheel are essentially the same as the 77/78K bikes except for the alloy rims replacing the chromed steel ones.  . . . .What does this mean for your 76K?  Well there may very well be some issues with chain alignment as I believe Honda shifted things around to deal with the larger 630 chain. If the auto rear wheel has its sprocket still on it, check to see if it is 630 or 530 size.  Overall. you should be able to measure and compare wheels fairly easily.  Also, if I am correct about the compatibilty with the 77/78K bikes then the swap should be the the same as putting the 77/78K wheels on an earlier bike which perhaps someone out there has already done and can give you more specifics . . . BTW the alloy DID rims on the auto are identical to the ones on the GL1000s.  They are also annodized and you should not try to polish out scratches as this will only make things look worse.  Good luck.

The wheels/rims I won are off of a 76........not a 77/78. Since they are going on a same year bike......mine is also a 76...maybe there wont be a difference. I will check the sprocket though.....will probally just take my sprocket off and put it on the new rim since its almost new.

as far as I know it is just a bolt out bolt in deal. Been about two years since I last swapped the rims but really the 76 Hondamatic hubs should be the same as a K bike. I used to do this swap and I don't ever remember making anything special or needing anything other than what I had.

I believe the GL's are shaft drive and disc rear so if this is riight then rear hub is pretty different.  The 17" DID rim on the rear GL wheel is the same size as the 77/78K bikes and is identical to the alloy DID rim on the spoked Autos.
