1977 cb750k bogs when given throttle
« on: October 13, 2010, 05:45:20 PM »
I just adjusted the timing on my bike.  Dwell was checked with a meter and the dwell on both sets of points is 24.5.  Timing is on the correct marks.  The bike idles good, but when I throttle it hard in neutral it bogs. Need some helpful advice.  Before I adjusted the timing the bike was responsive when throttled in neutral.

Did you clean out the accel pump?

Carburetors...... If your using the stock 77's with the accelerator pump, I would say that is the culprit....

::) I didn't see where you said BEFORE you adjusted the timing it ran fine.... so idk.

So the bike was ok before you set timing? Are you sure the timing is accurate? How did you time, static or dynamic?
It may be possible that you have the timing set wrong on the marks. Did you set for the F or the T? It should be set so that the points open JUST as you hit the F mark.

When in neutral is there any difference to throttle response if you....

- roll it open slowly
- crank it open fast

Also, is the choke sticking/stuck?  Sounds like getting too much gas almost.

If you did the timing dynamically, maybe try a static timing set just as a
check.  Or vice-versa; just as a 'sanity check' of the timing being set.

Ran right before you timed it and not after. That's hard to figure out? Unless you knocked something loose, you mucked up the timing or the point gap.
