Newbie checking in!
« on: October 14, 2010, 07:44:00 PM »
Hey Guys,

I found this forum will searching for a Honda CB550 or CB750 to build up and have been lurking for a few weeks now. I currently am bike-less but while in college I learned to ride on a 1983 Honda Nighthawk 550 and moved my way into a Yamaha R6.  I am trying to learn as much as I can so that I know what I am looking for when searching for the perfect Honda.  There is a ton of information here and I look forward to finding the right bike and building it up!

If anyone has a CB550 or CB750 they are looking to part with in Texas please let me know!

Daniel

I'm near Austin and just bought a 750K, so have been looking.

Check this one  for $1500:   [what's your budget?]

I have actually emailed that seller a few times.  Let me paste some of our conversations.  I really wanted to stay under $1,000.  What do you guys think?

 Hello,

Is this bike still for sale? If so, in your ad it says it has a few
issues.  Could you elaborate a little bit more on these issues?

Thanks!

Daniel

HIM:
The bike is still for sale. There is a small oil leak from a cover on the left side of the engine. A new cover will fix the problem. The carbs also need to be synced. The tool to do it yourself is $80 and I have two different manuals that show u how to do it. Never asked what a motorcycle shop would charge to do it. The neutral light also stays on all the time, not sure why. The bike runs and rides fine. It would definatly run a lot better if the carbs where synced, but I ride the bike all the time with no problems.

ME:

How many owners has the bike had? Has the motor ever been apart?

Thanks for answering my questions!

HIM:
I'm the fourth owner that I know of. The bike sat in storage for about 10 years before I bought it a year and a half ago, and it didn't have a title, but I got a new bonded title on the bike which has only me on it. I have the original owners manual, where the original owner kept a log of everything he did to the bike. It says that the engine was rebuilt in the early 80's. I'm not at home, so I don't know the exact year. I have never taken apart the engine, but I have taken off and cleaned the carbs.

Go check the bike out and test ride it if he'll lrt you.
If you like it, pull out $1K and say that is all you have.

I've done this before, it can work.

Good Luck.
