Alternator Cover Plate

Hi everybody noob here,
I stumbled across the forum yesterday and it looks like just the ticket for me. I've started my first 750 sohc project last week and have about a million questions, but the one that has me most perplexed at the moment I'm sure is common knowledge in here and I just didn't type the right words into the search function.
I'm building a CR replica (sort of) starting with a 71 cb750 and want to run a total loss ignition to save weight and let it rev quicker. As far as I can determine the engine doesn't require the alternator rotor at all as a flywheel and even with a lightened crank will still be ridable on the track at race pace revs.
What I'm struggling with is what to do in place of the alternator cover. I really would like to get rid of it as it makes the bike way too wide. I believe the CR's had a blank off or cover plate which covered the oil passage and left side main bearing.
Is there a simple way to address this or does someone make a plate for this which I can buy?
Any other advice relating to this issue or the building of a CR replica would be greatly appreciated.
I'll try to get some pics of my progress for your amusement.

Making the flat cover is easy, most can handle that.
Snout can be threaded on , bolted on , or welded.
Should press a sleeve over the oil hole, and plug end of crank..

If you want to make your own, I could make up a few bolt on snouts.. killer looking billet..
