Hi everyone its been a bit to long since i updated the build blog for my MAX MPH CAFE RACER, family - kids - business - work all seemed to get in the way.
But here goes, after the Thundersprint outing i ran the bike on the road through the summer, the more i used it the more i noted things that needed sorting. Heres a quick list.
@ Front brakes need improving (bigger piston in master cylinder required)
@ Rear cable operated brake not efficient at all
@ Fibreglass fuel tank prone to leaks
@ Rear sets to wide & foul exhausts
1st Job the rearsets, ive dropped the pipes off & removed the spacers on the footpegs bringing them in by approx 25mm a side. All the extra linkages are removed & on the gearlever side its now very simple & clean with just 2 rose joints & a rod (the pic shows the mock up using stud iron I will fab a new rod this week) The angle of the lever is now spot on for my foot position when on the bike.

Next stop excuse the pun, the back brake, the cable operating system i built wouldnt work effectivley how ever many times i adjusted it, also the extention arm on the lever tended to try to twist the leaver instead on rotating it. I spotted on a few Classic Race Hondas that they had reversed the brake activation arm on the drum so it pointed up instead of down. Once i had done this i removed all the old rearset linkage and cut a Y shaped plate from alloy plate, once in position i bent the activation arm to line up with the rear brake arm.

Heres a shot of the mock up, i also bolted a stainless allen bolt through the rearset mount as a stop for the pedal return, ive tested this and it works very well with the minimum of pedal travel. Next i will clean up the brackets & fab a new brake rod arm.
Ive also decided to go for a 4 into one exhuast system exiting just under the foot peg, more on that next week.
Thats it for now as off to the Stafford Show for a few bits, next update I will cover the Alloy Tank & exhaust system
