Help: 1976 Honda CB550F SS
« on: October 17, 2010, 04:10:36 PM »
I have just started to do a winter project on a 1976 Honda CB550F SS.

The previous owner had been trying to get it running for a year or so. Before I start any really costly(?) work I am stripping down the carbs, checking ignition etc. Really I am starting with a good engine service to get her running before making any more expensive cosmetic work.

The carbs were quite nasty, but cleaned them up and ordered rebuild kits. I started to line up all of the components and found some parts missing. (I don't think I lost them!)

Is it possible to get the 'little' 'cups' (best description I can give) that go on the end of the springs that grip the actuating arms? There is also one felt spindle washer missing.

Any ideas on sourcing them without spending a fortune?

I have the same bike and wondering where you ordered your rebuild kits from? Is it a full kit or just gaskets?

Go to this link or your Honda mc dealer of choice and look at a parts fiche.  If you can save a picture of what you need to help give us a better idea of what you're looking for I'm sure someone will chime in.

I'm pretty sure it's either of these that you're looking for. (see pic). Even if they were available from Honda you'd have to buy a holder set or an arm set & one of 'em is listed $238.
I think you'd be better off finding a second rack somewhere & lifting the part from that.
Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators.
We haven't met yet.
