1976 CB550 Front Disk size (for disk lock)
« on: October 16, 2010, 09:19:39 AM »
Hey there,

My new purchase of a 1976 CB550 is arriving tom'w - needs LOTS of work, so I will be seeing you all soon :).  Seller has agreed to ride her to me, since I will not be able to get the reg/plates until sometime next week.  Although the bike is not really something I would worry about getting stolen, in it's current visual state, I figured I should buy a disk brake lock at least, to have a some peace of mind.

Can anyone tell me what the size is I would need for the stock front brake?  The disk locks I have found come in 2" and 3", and the size of the pin for the holes (10mm I suspect).   The parts list I have for the bike doesn't have the size, and I would love to have it on hand when it gets here.

Thanks!

Unless your disk has been modified from stock and drilled, Then they are solid. No holes like anything "modern" (well anything newer that 1980  ;D )

And I might be wrong but dont all disk locks work by clamping though one of those holes?

You can also use this one and lock your bike at the rear sprocket (don't forget to remove the lock when you start to ride  ;) )

Thanks so much folks.  When you say at the rear sprocket, do you mean thru the spokes near the sprocket?

Appreciate your help.

No, the sprocket does have several holes in it (see pic). You can use one of these holes. Your lock gets dirty by the chain, so you'd better use a small back to store the lock after use.

Gottcha. Sorry for the confusion.

If only you all could see hoe different my back wheel looks from the example in your photo!  Cleanliness, wise :)

It will be an uphill battle getting her looking a little finer, but that's half the fun...

Thanks for the tip.
