Rejetting Carbs
« on: October 16, 2010, 03:38:00 PM »
Hi there I am looking to buying a 73 CB500 and the owner is located in Colorado and I'm in SoCal and he advised me if I were to buy the bike he suggested that I were to rejet the carbs due to the lower altitude I'm at otherwise he said it'll run lean. How difficult is this to do on a 73 CB500? Keep in mind, it is pulling a sidecar.

Thanks Guys!

It's not difficult at all. It's also not the first thing I'd be concerned with. Are you going to ride the bike before you buy it , or are you having them ship it to you? A Clymer manual will assist you with the carbs, but I'd sure like to ride it first.

I'm having the bike shipped to me. I'm kinda sketchy on it but he says that is the only thing that is needed.

In that case, I would just ride the bike when you get it and see how it runs. As far as jetting, it's trial and error. Definitely get that shop manual, or download one here, and keep it in the $hitt3r. You can learn a ton from that thing. A tune-up would be atop my list. I don't own said bike, however many folks on here do and they can answer the specifics. Also, don't be afraid to use the search function for specific queries.
