Do bottle jacks work?
« on: October 16, 2010, 08:49:00 AM »
I was considering using this 7.5"-13" low profile bottle jack from HF under the front of the CB750 motor to get the front end off. Will it work?

The right height jack with padding, will make working on the front end a breeze..

dont need much tonnage..2ton would work..lighter easier to move around..

Yep. Use a small piece of 1/2" wood between it and the engine, so it doesn't mar the cases. I usually set it at the big front bottom bolt's "tunnel" to raise the front. Jack it up until the rear wheel touches down, which helps hold the bike still while you're working up front.  ;)

A plastic end car,  that slips over the end, is ideal..

Ifyou have a sissy bar or rack, the right length bungies can hold the bars in the middle position..

A regular floor jack also works well.  At least that's what I've always used, but basically any sturdy jack that will fit underneath the bike will work.

I use a standard floor jack and a piece of 2X4, then slip this little beauty underneath the crossbar on my 72 CB750, and I can lower and have full access to the front end, a one person job.

The 45 degree cut out of the top of the 2X4 is 25 1/2 inches off of the ground (bottom of v) which includes the 1/2 plywood base. I take no credit, somebody here had posted something similar.

The bike in the background is a 04' flathead :) trike.
