Good stock exhaust replacement for a 550 4-4? (back pressure)
« on: October 16, 2010, 06:26:25 PM »
I'm seeing these on Dennis Kirk for a '76 550k. My old exhaust is ratty as usual for these bikes. My stock setup is a 4-4 but this will take it down to a 4-2. I think I have back pressure issues anyways with my current rusty exhaust....will going to a 4-2 cause alot of A/F mixture, idling, or just running condition/general woes? They are alot cheaper than getting the $800 NOS set.

I wish they still made the sito 4-2's for the 550's but the website says they aren't offered anymore. Which sucks because they are better looking mufflers in my opinion.

Anybody have any experience going from a 4-4 to a 4-2? How difficult is it to go to these ^ slip ons bolted up?

$HT!
wish they had these for my 350F!!
not bad at all.
some fine tuning will be required.
might be really simple if you have stock airbox(and you do a complete tuneup first)
it will be a little more involved, but doable, if you have pods.

I will be running a stock airbox and set to stock carbs (jets and needle). I wouldn't think there would be any problems either. Was just curious of others experience.

Tjjkc: They look super nice on your bike! How difficult were they to install? I'm assuming they retain center stand use considering you still have yours on?

Chad .....thanks but I still like the look and sound of stock pipes..but the set I have is mint and don't know if I want to use them.

The 4/2 pipes were easy ..the only prob I had was which head pipe was which as in #1 2,3, or 4

Put the head pipes on loosly, then the muffler, bracket, line every thing up and then start tightening things up.

I do have a bit of center stand rattle, have to make a small stop one day.

These a bit louder then stock ,they do bark a bit when you let it go ........but I still get comments as how quiet the bike is.........
