Offending part...snapped off.
I tried to JBWeld it, now I'm faced with cleaning that small film of JB off and trying to get it welded properly...or I may be into a new carb body....whatever it takes.

As I mentioned some place, what is usually called pot metal on the carb is actually zinc alloy, I would not touch it with a welder, but you could probably braze it. We call it hard soldering, uses copper alloy instead of the tin.

Somebody on this site has actually welded those posts before - Laser ?

Don't quite remember, but it looked incredible. Little tiny beautiful welds.

Anyone remember that thread ?

Yes I remember it, some kind of "micro welder", but don't know if I could ever find it.

Thanks guys! I've been trying everything...it's ridiculous really that no one does precise welding on zinc parts.

I just bought these about 6 months ago and never even got to ride with them, so it's disappointing.
Also, the carbs are 086a's and no one seems to have a #1 body I could beg borrow or steal either...

If they were 657's I'd be laughing...I'm not though unfortunately.

With these plus a few other supporting parts to get them in, the airbox as well I could almost have bought CR29's by now. Live and learn I guess.

Oh, by the way the Steel dragon airbox does in fact have their velocity stacks built in. I had to stick my finger in to feel them but the nice radius shape is definitely there. They are about 40mm long if I had to guess.
So, perhaps they are short style velocity stacks.

Anyway, I think the airbox from them is brilliant.

I may buy some CR's yet...it depends if I could find some.

Edit...I've got the winter now as I doubt there is much quality riding time left in the year here in Ontario.

I'll buy a set of CR29's when they come available again and in the meantime keep working on trying to get the broken post brazed properly.

Went to the local bike yard/breaker and picked out three sets of 657a's...took them up to the counter expecting to pay $150 for three sets of mostly complete/semi-damaged/dirty carbs.

They want $200 per set!

So...that seals the deal for me. CR's as soon as I can get my hands on a set.

Very excited to be able to have this done, and by "one of us" for that matter...who could understand this problem better!

Should be there by Wednesday I'd guess.

I expect it will take 2 weeks all told by they time they turn around and come back.
Shipping will take up the majority of the time.

Got the carb back from Jim....man he is truly an artist with that precision welder!

I put the bike back together yesterday evening until late and after work today I was out for a couple of laps around the block, nothing too harsh just a fun ride to warm it up.

First impressions of riding a CB750 for the first time....she feels a lot smaller and more powerful than anticipated.

I've renamed her "The Baby Elephant" which I think suits her a lot better...

Can't wait to get some parts painted over the winter and put the finishing touches on this build.

(And of course get out and ride again when the warm weather comes...)

Sync'd the carbs one more time and have been riding in some unusually warm weather the last couple of days....it's so nice to be out in the sun riding.

Due to a "slight technicality" called "lack of licence plates" I have to limit my riding duration to coincide with the response times of the local police force.

Bump...out for a ride today! It's ridiculous to be out on December 3 here in Southern Ontario so I thought I'd share my happiness.

I have about 7 miles on the bike and she is purring like a kitten, the power delivery is surprisingly strong and the powerband feels wider than my ability to mitigate fear right now! She is a lot more powerful than I anticipated, I need to take my time and get used to this bike or I'll end up in trouble...

Also, an interesting phenomenon has occurred, the small amount of smoking I had at idle stopped and the oil pressure started responding to the throttle now.

Previously it was pegged at 60-80psi at all times, now it is dropping down to 20+psi at idle and moving more directly in relation to the throttle. I think something finally worked it's way loose due to nice easy warm-ups and some time with positive and negative pressure driving on the road.

The painter did an amazing job with those covers.

He did say they were a #$%* to do because of the ribs and a lot of sanding, but they look like pure metal with the Honda silver metallic sprayed on them.

Much better in real life and up close than they can possible look like online.

Thanks everyone! I think I really "made it my own" with this one.
(I wanted a retro/clean feel, I think I got it.)

Lots of "bolt-on's" but also some hard work machining and blending and making things really clean.

It took about a year and a half, and I can't see it ever being really "finished" unless I'm prepared to put it in a glass case which I'm not.

Next up, maybe a little vinyl for the tank just to highlight some features...maybe some shocks.
I'd like to build an 836 motor for her someday too...

At least it is in "rideable" condition now, that's what I was aiming for this spring!
