I dropped the bike ten years ago after I first got it. It took the Ducat dealer over a year to get a new tank from Ducati. This was for a BRAND NEW BIKE at the time. It was not until the spring of 2001 that I was able to get a replacement tank from my accident in the spring of 2000. It doesn't surprise me in the least that they no longer make the tank and with the cost of the thing (Lists for $1500 now and $2000 back in 2001) it doesn't surprise me that no one just happens to have one lying around NOS. I would rather have MY TANK, repaired correctly, than someone else's possible problem that they picked up on ebay.

I agree. It's total Bull Sh!t that it happened. And I will NOT be bringing that bike back there for any work in the future, that's for sure. And If I were to buy a new bike from one of the manufacturers they represent I will most likely go to a different dealer to do the deal and would certainly look elsewhere for service. BUT - they are owning up to their problem. They are taking care of it. I am okay with that. As long as I get my bike back, it looks great and rides great just like it did before. I will be happy.

Well, and really, when it all comes down to it, that's all that really matters.

You originally had a unmarked, undamaged tank, thats what you should get back, no compromise. I would have contacted Ducati from the start and organised a new tank, there is no way in this world would i accept a tank with bondo in it if it was unmarked originally....
Your bike  is now worth less and you should disclose this to any prospective buyer in the future.

Mick

+1. I don't even like using bondo in 40 year old tanks, and I'd feel guilty if I didn't tell the new owner that there was bondo in the tank. This company in Holland has 2 new Ducati Monster tanks for sale for 630 bucks each, which is a lot better than 1500 or 2000. I did an EBay search for "Ducati Monster tank" and there were plenty of hits. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That one is fuel injected. Mine i carbureted. It's a different tank.

My model tank was only made for, like, two years. and I certainly don't want something that "is close enough." I want the right tank.

That was only a suggestion KB02, did you do an internet search? I absolutely guarantee you that you can get a tank for your bike...
But if you are happy with a tank full of bog and no compensation for the privilege then good luck to you.... We were only trying to help..

Check EBay mate, I saw over 20 new tanks for Monsters and several used ones too. Cheers, Terry. ;D

You will see tons of tanks on ebay, he is right though, the FI tanks do not fit.  The problem with used tanks is that if the bike has EVER been down, even a light drop will ding the upper corner of the tank.  I am willing to bet that 99% of the used tanks for sale have been dinged in the upper corner where the handlebar flexes and tags it.

Yeah, no doubt you're right mate, I was just trying to point out that there are still plenty of tanks out there and not to just accept a repaired tank. Cheers, Terry. ;D
