Thoughts on an f2 836 upgrade
« on: October 19, 2010, 02:42:29 PM »
Hi all! Winter project motor is an F2 motor. I'd like to up it to 836. Now, my goal is to build as much 3000-6000 torque and power as I can. I don't need it way up high as this is merely a city rider, but I do need it to push my fat ass around quickly.

Would I need a complete unshrouding on the head? Hondaman's book seems to suggest so to get way more low-lift flow. I am planning on a good 3 angle valve job to work on that low to mid flow.

Cam: CycleX sells this cam "360 valve lift and 270 degree duration".
Does that lift and duration sound like reasonable for the target power band? I couldnt find the stock lift and duration figures for the F2 so Im kinda shooting in the dark on this one.Hondaman suggests that there are some sloppy stock cams out there, I would hope that a good aftermarket cam would not be as sloppy on lift?

Going to use stock carbs based on my car engine building experience in which I learned the hard way not to overcarb.  Does the same flow principles for velocity apply on these Honda motors?

Thanks, Steve4

Not speaking from experience, but I would guess your stock carbs would work.  I've seen other members use the stock PD's on turbocharged engines so I would think they'll keep up.  Are you going with the 836 kit for the F2s that CycleX offers?  I have a 78F and in the future I may go this route also.  I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.  Good luck!!!
