400F Head Cover Bolts
« on: March 09, 2006, 02:27:29 PM »
I'm slowly rebuilding the engine on my CB400F bought as a box of bits. The bolts I have for the Cyl Head Cover are socket head instead of original 'flange bolts' but they are a mixed set of mis-matched sizes.

Does anyone have a drawing of the correct size for each hole in the cover. I would also like to go back to the flange bolts if anyone has a full set.

I have looked at the fiche at crotchrocket.com and believe I know the correct sizes for them, but what is the 6x38 bolt ubs numbered (9) part# 90018-333-000

Email this guy in Southampton, I’ve had good info from him and most of my special bolts http://www.inoxgrp.co.uk/

I don't see anything special with the 90018-333-000 bolt, and UBS doesn't ring a bell. There are 2 of those bolts that go into the special 8mm cylinder stud nuts with the 6mm threads on top... but that doesn't suggest to me that any special bolt is needed, though

seen his site before biffta but didn't want to go with stainless bolts, I still prefer to get hold of Honda bolts, I have read of scare stories over stainless bolts not giving enough in aluminium, causing stripped threads or becoming loose.

Can't figure this either... all the other rocker cover bolts are described in the partsbook as "flange", UBS is only used for these two and for the bolts that hold on the crank rotor & primary gear. Maybe it's some sort of description for high tensile. I've rebuilt plenty of these motors & never given it a thought before, so I think you'll get away with just sticking to the right length.

Those bolts are not standard the guy told me, so they must be made from a higher grade of steel be it mild or SS.
I have no issues with using SS, but if you must have original bolts put a post in the wanted section you may get lucky …….if not your stuck with  washer's and bolts.  ;)

stainless is fine but you must use an anti seize product on the threads.

I wish MR Honda put some copper slip on the original bolts when I took them out ;D
