My quest to get the 500 running
« on: October 20, 2010, 05:46:55 PM »
As many of you know I recently purchased a 72 CB500. I was told that all it needed was some switches and it was ready to go.
If you've seen my posts you'll know it took a bit more than that.
Choke would not stay open, I got a ball stuck in a passage of the carb (now removed), Orange permatex in the floats and carb bodies, leaking float bowls(cleaned now), and I've rebuilt switches from a parts bike and gotten them to work.
Now I'm down to wiring and cables. The bike came with a Rick's Motorsport RR unit, and the wiring has been "slightly" modified. there is no flasher realy, which explains why my turn signal won't work. After multiple consultations with the wiring diagram, 2 cigars and a pot of coffee, I found the wires to the relay wrapped like a mummy in electrical tape.
Tomorrow I get a flasher unit to recitify this. Next will be the taillight which is not grounding, clutch cable fitting, and chain adjustment.
If all goes well then I'll be riding this time tomorrow
I'll post a few pics of the bike if I can get the camera back.
