Topic: Metal float repair?

I have one float that is definitely leaking, and my others can't be far behind it. Replacements are quite expensive, so is there any repairs I can try? My thought was some sort of coating, similar to what you might use on a gas tank. Would that work? What should I use?

You can solder or just replace with the newer plastic.All guys that own these bikes should have at least a couple banks of scrapper carbs to keep thing rolling.Buy the old junk when you see it around.

Believe me if one goes bad watch out,they are at the end of their lifespan.  40+ years is pretty good for old brass and solder if they have not been messed with to much. Put newer plastic in 71 750's before ,  no problems    What bike and what year are we even talking about since I do not see a brass floater in your sig.Hell they may not even be brass? OHHH catzor you sneeeky little devil you---I see you have added that on your sig.    Does it have one cam or two,heck who cares smear the seal all on and you good to go for awhile,but you may want to get a solder gun also

I have soldered repairs on the floats on my XS650's but it always seems to be a temporary fix as the float chamber is usually crumbling from the inside.  I get maybe a year at the most before they leak again.  Pry open that wallet they are only $20.  Only $12 for the XS from MikesXS.

I have also soldered on a known good chamber on a float bracket that had a leaker.  They come apart easily with a 35 watt iron.
