I'm about to give this a go, but I can't get the GIFs to show that last diagram on how to put the shift linkage back on right, to work. It prompts me "404 File Not Found". Anyone got this diagram somewhere to share?

Thanks in advance, Johnny.

To simplify things you can change the o ring without removing the cover completly. Just remove the bolts and slide the cover forward, snake the old one and replace it.

Easy-peasy.

I've been pretty MIA for a while .. Getting back into things since life is once again allowing me to..

I'm pretty sure this is the image I had that doesn't show now.. This time I saved it to my photobucket so we won't have to worry about broken links..

I like the chamfered holes idea.. I'm about to replace my trans gears with new ones that have undercut dogs .. Maybe while I've got things apart I'll chamfer the holes in there and update the guide..

Enjoy!

Welcome back. Seems to be the story of my life too. Trying to get back at it.

Dragging up an old one here, but I have a question for you that know more than me.

I just changed the three oil pump orings on my cb750 k3. To me there feels like an improvement in acceleration/performance after the new orings and oil and filter change.

Can the replacement of these orings have this kind of affect on a bike?

When my bike started shifting better it felt a ton faster because I wasn't babying it anymore.. actual differences would be pretty small I think.. could be totally wrong though.. better oil pressure has an effect on a lot of things on an air cooled bike

I would agree that the ORings themselves don't add to performance. But new ones will restore a feeling of newness that's been lost over the years. IF the bike feels better, it will feel faster. Humans being human.

Great info which I'll will try on my K1. Just two questions to help me, which item is the seal for the shift lever in the attached drwg and also what is the seal size? Concerning the extra holes in the clutch basket, just to clarify, the +/- reference is where the existing holes are and where the new holes will go (above or below) the stock holes - what distance do you drill between the new and existing holes? Why don't you simply add more holes in each location as I see some points are missed?

The seal near the shift lever isn't actually in that picture .. That was just a reference for putting the shift mechanism back together.. We've just finished moving but when I get everything unpacked I'll try and get some new pictures of the clutch to give a better reference of where I drilled the holes..

Thanks for the info. I was having trouble getting my bike to go into neutral while i was stopped. I drilled my clutch basket out and it pops into neutral with no problem now. Maybe with my next oil change i will swap out those o-rings.

done all of the mods described in this topic, but ran in some trouble with the last one.

the wheel with the cutout you see on the left, for some reason I turned it (while still mounted) and now the cutout is on the right.

How do you get it to fully turn? It's just turn a few degrees and is then blocked...
any ideas?

The "wheel" is connected to the shift drum, and by turning it, you're shifting gears. Try rotating the rear wheel or output shaft while turning the "wheel." That should allow the dogs to line up and slip into place.

BTW is there another link to the clutch hub drill mod. The link just runs you back to the home page.
Just getting ready to do this myself. Had the same problem, so did a search and found: Clutch Hub modification posts by HondaMan. Pretty sure that's what we're after. For what it's worth...

I needed to know more precisely where to drill new holes, so I sat down and made a chart, building on what 72hondacb750 drew for his first post (see attached). I noticed that the factory holes line up with clutch plates 1 and 3 (which gets oil to clutch disks 1 | 2 and 3 | 4), and clutch disk 6 (which gets oil to ... clutch disk 6 [and maybe a teeny bit to 5 and 7]). Basically, I added oil holes that line up with plates 2 and 4, which gets oil between disks 2 | 3 and 4 | 5. Disk 7 remains drier than the rest, but the position of the hub face precludes drilling an oil hole to feed it directly... But with disks 1 - 6 getting oil directly now, things have to work better! ;)

I'm very thankful for the info here. Just trying to add my small contribution.

[Edit: Just for the record, I have a K6 (see sig). Don't know if there are differences between years, but thought I should point that out.]
