Topic: 1975 CB750. Starting my first Cafe bike build

Well here is a pic of the 1975 CB750 I just picked up. I am going to tear it apart and rebuild it with the help of you guys on here.  I have never built a street bike..only experience has been with dirt bikes.

Going to pressure wash some of the grunge off and get it ready for disassembly.

First question.  It has an oil leak from one of the gaskets.. looks like from the lower cylinder head gasket.  I want to put on new gaskets to fix any leaks.  The bike has 19k miles on it. Should I do a rebuild on the motor at the same time?

I read a couple of threads on here and looks like I can pick up the parts needed for about $300, but should I do all this or can I just replace gaskets?

New points ($10.00 from Rusty Riders)

if your taking the jugs off youll need piston rings and you might as well give the valves some attention as well. i would do rings and hone and lap the valves in.

Out of curiousity why are you tearing it down? High mileage? Or doesn't it run well? Larry

exactly. I ordered up a gasket and ring set from Cycle X.  And heavy duty studs from Z1 and I am hoping that will hold me over until a full rebuild is needed. Also have a stainless bolt kit coming from Ebay for reassemble.

Have the bike all degreased and powerwashed ready to take apart.

Mainly I just did not want it to leak oil and I figured since I was going to have the jugs off I might as well freshen up the motor.  It has 19k on it.

I am going to have to do some searching on here and learn about the valves.  Anyone have any links to a good thread?
