Russian Navy Captures Somalian Pirates and Ship!.. Then disposes of them!...

End of  problem!

Amazing video!

Court held on the High  Seas

A brutal but  effective way to deal with the piracy mess. Looks like the  Russians get their act together before we even have a clue.

Just like Hiroshima , an act like this can save a lot of  lives and prevent major future loss of life and property. An  historic and effective way of dealing with the lawless. They  did make one mistake. They should have saved one pirate and  sent him home with the story...

Read the info below the link before watching the film clip.

  RUSSIAN NAVY CAPTURES  SOMALIAN PIRATES

http://true-turtle.livejournal.com/85315.html

This  videotape shows Russian Navy commandos on a Somalian pirate  ship shortly after the pirates had captured a Russian oil  tanker. The Euro Union navy that patrols these waters would  not interfere because they feared there could be  casualties.

All explanations are  in Russian with a single exception of when a wounded pirate  says something in English and the Russian mariner says "This  is not a fishing boat.".  All conversations between the  commandos are in Russian. If you don't understand Russian,  the pictures speak for  themselves.

The marines freed  their compatriots and the tanker. The Russian Navy Commandos  moved the pirates back to their own (pirate) ship, searched  the pirate ship for weapons and explosives, and then they  left the ship and exploded it with all remaining pirates  hand-cuffed to it.

The commandos sank the  pirate ship along with the pirates and without any court  proceedings, lawyers etc. That is, they used the anti-piracy  laws of the 18th and 19th centuries where the captain of the  rescuing ship has the right to decide what to do with the pirates. Usually, they were hung.

I would think from now  on, Russian ships will not be targets for Somalian  pirates.

A MOST EFFECTIVE WAY OF DEALING WITH PREDATORS.

                        ACLU WOULD NOT APPROVE!

I dunno...I'm not making excuses but by that logic wouldn't states with the death penalty have the lowest murder rates?

Also, alot of these pirates will continue because they have (in their mind) no other choice.

But what do I know...I'm a bleeding heart Canadian  ;)

All I can see is some men handcuffed/tied up under guard on the deck of ship.  This ship does not even resemble the type of vessel the pirates typically use.  Then the video cuts to a ship/boat being blown up in the distance.  Whether anyone is aboard who knows.  There is no evidence of this.  I don't understand Russian so maybe some who does can provide some insight.
The idea of killing unarmed tied up prisoners in what is little more than a "drumhead trial" has no place in a democratic society that prides itself on the rule of law regardless of how emotionally satisfying it may be to some.  We don't live by the many of the conventions of the 18th and 19th century anymore.  If you get a kick out of this maybe you should move to Somalia, Sudan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, North Korea, etc, etc, where this is common practice.

If you want to go down the road of extrajudicial killings and summary executions you should be careful as it can just as easily be used against "Westerners" in the different conflict areas around the globe.

If you research the event there is contradictory information and even the authenticity of the video is in question with one claim stating that parts of it are from another episode in 2009.   Some news account state that the pirates were put back aboard their vessel and released but failed to make it back to shore for unknown reasons.  Some news reports are critical of the Russians for releasing them but there seems to be no international legal framework to deal with this.  The personnel of the different navies that patrol this area are professionals who understand "rules of engagement" and I doubt would be involved in something like this, despite all the tough talking swagger of some of the folks back home.  Can't believe everything on the interwebs.

Yeah, maybe also when rich bully countries would stop exploiting weaker countries for their resources and to exploit them, maybe they wouldn't have to resort to pirating.

here is one news report. The underlined portion is a key part.

Agence France Presse

MOSCOW — The Russian military did not intend to kill Somali pirates who are believed to be dead after being set afloat at sea in a small boat about 10 days ago, a senior commander was quoted as saying Monday.

Navy captain Ildar Akhmerov confirmed earlier reports that the 10 captured pirates and their one dead comrade who had attempted to seize a Russian oil tanker were put to sea in a boat without any navigation equipment.

“We did not have the task of destroying the pirates during the operation to free the tanker. There was one main goal: to free the ship’s crew,” Akhmerov was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.

“Our military medics gave the necessary medical help to all of the wounded bandits. We loaded the dead bandit’s body onto one of the pirates’ boats with the rest of the pirates, and sent it to the nearest coast, towards Somalia.”

“We loaded water, food and all their other things — except the confiscated weapons, boarding ladders and navigation tools — into the pirates’ boat,” he said.

“The further fate of the released pirates is not known to us.”

Akhmerov, the commander of a group of warships in Russia’s Pacific Fleet, made the comments aboard the Marshal Shaposhnikov, the destroyer that led the operation to free the captured tanker, Interfax reported.

Marines from the Marshal Shaposhnikov led the daring raid on May 6 to free the tanker, called the Moscow University, after it was seized by pirates from the lawless east African country of Somalia.

The operation was initially hailed as a huge success, but Russia was later embarrassed by reports that it had let the pirates go because of the unclear legal situation surrounding their possible prosecution.

Last week an unidentified senior Russian defence ministry source told state news agencies that the pirates’ boat had failed to reach shore and that they were “evidently” dead.

  • What a Long strange trip it's been
That is how the Russians have always dealt with terrorists, they are not worried about being politically correct or even nice. That is why you rarely hear about anyone trying to extort kidnap or attack them except the groups in their own country. The perps world wide know that retribution is swift and includes taking out their relatives too. The Russian crime syndicates are just as brutal. Perhaps the mamby-pamby governments in this world should take a lesson, there would be a lot less terrorists around. Israel learned it long ago. The tapes are probably doctored, but the message not to mess with them definitely got out there.

  • Gotcha!
It's on the internet, it's gotta be true!

I dunno...I'm not making excuses but by that logic wouldn't states with the death penalty have the lowest murder rates?

Unfortunately in my state, death row inmates get to lead the life of Rylie for up to 14 years before justice is ever dealt. I say when a mruderer is convicted and sentenced to death, you get one year, one appeal, that's it, you're gone. Not sure why people feel sorry for these animals, it's like the anti-death penalty advocates make victims out criminals and criminals out of victims. Pretty screwed up thinking if you ask me. We've had our share of doozy's here: Ted Bundy, Gary Rdigeway, Kenneth Bianci, Wesley Allan Dodd (At least he took responsibilty and told the anti DP people to shove it). Charles Campbell (Prison kingpin for 10 years, pissed his pants on the way to the gallows).

Anyway yes you're right, the death penealty doesn't work in it's current form. My inlaws are candaian I have this discussion with them all the time, over a rye and coke of course  ;)

When the Iranians took over the American Embassy they also took over the Russian. The head of the Iranian Army received a package the next day with a relatives private parts in the box and a brief note telling them " We have all your addresses" The Russians were released.

When the International Navies were trying to protect the Vietnamese boat people from Thai Pirates, the American and other Navies would chase the Pirates away, and take the boat people on board. The Italian Navy blew up the pirate boats and then took the refugees on board. When asked why they blew the Pirates out of the water rather than chase them away, the Italians answered, "Our way we only chase them once".
