So I finally figured out the problem.  I finally had some time over the weekend and swapped the needle and seat as a pair from the second carb to the first carb.  The leak followed!  So I am just going to put in one of the old sets and see what happens.

I may have this problem finally figured out . . . just in time for fall  :'(

either...
A. the spring in the needle is bad.
B. the needle did not come with the seat, and does not fit flush
C. the float setting is off, and the tang is not applying enough pressure for the needle to properly close.

with your leaky bowl off, and fuel line on and hooked up to gas supply, turn on your petcock and lift your float.  does the flow stop?
if yes, then something is going on with your float/tang. recheck float height.
if it still leaks...i would put my $ on A, and order 1 (or 4) new float needles/seats.

Don't forget to check the bowl stand pipe for cracks.

Definitely!
...but only if he switched bowls when he switched needles.
did the leak follow the bowl, or the needle?  :P

I drained the fuel and replaced it with fresh stuff and the leak stopped. I have no idea how this worked but I'm thankful for it and everyones suggestions.

Next problem, one of the slides is sticking. It used to be fine, but the last time I rebuilt the carbs I had a lot of trouble getting it out. Any suggestions?
