Chicago area newb- Honda fan!
« on: November 25, 2010, 03:45:58 pm »
Greetings:
I began riding in 1972 on a Honda CL70, and here I am all these years later about to pick up a 1972 CB750K2! Full circle I guess...in between my first big Honda was a green 1972 (there's that year again!) CB500 Four that was my father's. Great bike, made all kinds of mistakes on that one, but I survived them.

I also own a CL175K5 that I just restored, and an RC30. I'm here for tech info and advice on the CB750K2, and so far I'm impressed with the knowledge and sharing here. No doubt anything I come across has been dealt with and discussed already, so I'll be "searching" first. First up will be trying to source Dunlop Gold Seal tires, or the closest thing available to that tread pattern. Love the project threads!  ;)

Probably should clarify my board name "sandman"- it'll probably be assumed that I have a sandcast 750. Nope, I wish- just a take on my first name, but I guess it fits around here anyway!

Welcome!

Happened to me also. Learned to ride and got my license on a friend's CB750 in 1970. Had a CB550K in the early 80s then got married and the wife wanted me around to help raise kids so I sold it.

Now the kids are growed up. I got a 78 CB750K a couple years ago and have been learning to ride again and been fixing it up with lots of help from here. It is now almost like new again and I love riding.

You have come to the right place. There is a ton of information here and as you said, people more than willing to listen and share.

Enjoy your stay.

Welcome to the board!!!  I've bought tires from these guys for the last few years.

Nice welcome, guys- you all rock. Thanks. Forgot to list my daily rider Honda, a CBR1100XX. Did I mention that I like Hondas?

Steve: the '72 750K2 is what you'd call a survivor, completely original and not rough enough to warrant a total restoration, just freshening up and correcting some minor issues. I just got clued in to Yamiya's site from another thread on this board- I was unaware of them. Man, they've got so many parts that I could use to upgrade my bike...but the prices are so high! Must be the exchange rate, right?
My CL175K5 is a 1971 model like yours, so we're brothers, mine's the strato blue color. If you happen to be on the HondaTwins forum, I just posted up pics of the completed restoration.

zzpete: First off, anybody with a Zappa avatar is cool in my book right off the bat. I appreciate the link to the vintage Dunlop tires, I hadn't seen that one. Tough to find anyone still making a rib front tire for 750's, but there are close matches since the Z1 restoration market is so big these days.

Welcome!  Forget about Yamiya, you can find anything you need here and on eBay. [You did see the Parts for sale and wanted threads, right?].

Nice CL 175, let's see the 750!

PS. I've been to Chicago a couple times, nice city. Everybody walks Downtown, unlike Texas!

Stev-O:
Really, forget about Yamiya? He clearly has stuff I've never seen available elsewhere, unless I'm missing CB750 parts sources you guys know about, which is likely. Have people here had bad experiences with him, other than the unbelievable prices (plus shipping)?

From what I've read, their prices are very high. And then it ships from Japan. I've also read positive feedback too.
I would just try to get it elsewhere, if possible.

Have you seen this:
