Anyone know the 78 750K petcock thread size?
« on: October 24, 2010, 02:03:24 PM »
I made a big mistake while sealing my tank yesterday and forgot to remove the fuel strainer screen, which I found out is not reusable once taken out, because you end up destroying it trying to get it out.  A guy on Ebay sells the whole assembly set up but isn't sure that his will fit.  Here is the link, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320604783661&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123.  I know most 77 and 78 parts are interchangeable, but he doesn't think the pc thread sizes are the same.

I currently have a 77' 750K petcock on my 78' 750K, no problems. Like the ebay add states "the fuel outlet is on the side (towards the rear of the bike) instead of out the back (towards the engine)". Didn't the sealer bond to the screen? How did you remove the screen without damaging the sealer?

After I removed the tank screen from my 78' 750K I switched to an in-line filter.

After I removed the tank screen from my 78' 750K I switched to an in-line filter.

I was able to blow air up through the filter before it started to set, but I didn't feel comfortable with it like that.  I guess I'll just go ahead and order it then, I will be running an inline filter anyway.  I am ordering a new petcock is because the gasket is crumbling and I'm pretty sure I can't buy it separately, not to mention the thing is pretty shabby looking. Thanks!

Anyone know the 78 750K petcock thread size?

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=78416.0

my caliper says the threaded part of the bung is 22mm wide, and the thread gauge from my tap and die set says the threads are 1mm, making it a 22x1mm bung. I don't have any dies that go up that big, so I cant run a die on it, but I did the next best thing, hope that helps!
