New to this forum and Just picked up a 1975 CB 550 Project
« on: October 22, 2010, 09:48:50 AM »
Hello to all.
I was riding down by the duck pond in my home town and on the front lawn of one of the larger homes was a 1975 CB550 calling my name. I stopped again the next day, I called the phone number on the attached cardboard sign. Three days later I came back with my truck and with my son-in-law's help brought the bike home. It is complete, stock and has only 8200 miles with a clear title. All lights and starter work but no spark yet, I'm working the problem out and hope to have solid spark to the plugs by his weekend. I'll also take photos, my plan is to get it road ready and registered before I tear it down to build my dream bike. It is always easier to get a stock bike registered. I'm sure I'll be asking a ton of questions as I proceed with this project.

PS just updated my profile with a photo of me and my ST1300 enjoying a ferry boat ride while at American this summer. We traveled from NY to Vermont to spend the day riding some great twisties.

Update on the CB550. With the help of a friend from work we worked out the no spark issue and actually got the bike started with some gentle working of the carb linkage. Spraying some carb cleaner and WD-40 over all the linkage and into the intakes of of each carb and the CB550 barked to life for the fist time in over three years. I still have to check the timing and clean out the stock tank before letting it run up to temp. I'll get some photos posted by next weekend.
