Crane!
« on: October 27, 2010, 04:58:36 PM »
Drove to the bottom of the driveway yesterday and stopped.
Across the street, from the stream  a blue heron took flight up the road,
flying under 4 feet high for 350-400 feet because of the low hanging trees.
The wingspan was at least 2 meters/6 feet.

I was just thinking of how I come down this road at 45-65mph on my bike most days.  ???

Just thought I would share.

peace,
michel

I was cruising over in New Hampshire a few weeks ago.  I was tooling along at about 65 when I spied up ahead a flock of turkeys crossing the road by foot and by air.  I thought nothing of it and kept going at the same speed towards them.  Then I thought about the time I hit a turkey in my old van and the  nearly impossible damage it did to the windshield pillar.  I grabbed my clampers and gave them the road until they were all on one side.  I don't know what I was thinking.  A turkey killed a guy last year on a bike.

+1 on the turkeys, Cuppy.  As I ride around the area (sometimes to fast), I quickly forget about all the wild animals around here.  Last year we had a guy get killed driving to work, because he hit a horse in the road.  As a matter of fact my father-in-law (i guess you could call him that) hit a horse as well, and totalled his pick up.  Anyway I sometimes think about how bad it would turn out if any of that happened when on two wheels, and then add high speeds to the mix.  It always makes me ease off the throttle and enjoy the ride and life.

Yeah, you start to think about those things when you get close to thirty.  If you don't, Darwin plays a lottery with your ass.

You think about those things when you are close to thirty?? I am close to sixty.

We have had a "murder" (look it up) of crows hanging around here for the past few days, probably about three or four hundred of them. Crows are pretty smart animals. I am sure that one would not on purpose get in the way of my bike, but you never know do you?

I said that one starts to think of those things.  It doesn't usually end.  Midlife gets a bit hairy with the "crisis" and all, but we get through it.
