So.  Laminar.  What again do you have to add here?  Do you own a truck?  Do you like it?  What is it?  Is it a "good" truck in your mind?  Have you had a bad experience with an American truck?  Do you like flowers?  Do you eat red meat?  Are you a member of your local VFD?  Do you wear tightie-whities?  Are you a Marlboro man?  Do you wear women's clothes?  Can you whistle?  Do you love your mom?  Is the sky the same color where you live?  Do you have pets?  Do you have a large collection of porn?  Do you get sad when the weather get cold?  Can you juggle?

What's my point?*

*I'll answer later.  Just think on it a bit.

Define a "large collection of porn" or give a ballpark value of what a "large collection" specifies.

To answer Dukes query:
The answer is "Q" or "fifteen".  Does that help?

Man, you really have a crush on me. If you do truly have a problem with me I'd much rather sort it out over PM than have you following me around thread crapping wherever I go. So please, send me a PM and we'll hug it out.

You just don't get it and i am not following you around, i have been checking in on this thread because i have owned a few F trucks and i currently drive a twin cab Isuzu diesel Ute {truck}. You on the other hand have done what you usually do and come in speaking #$%* and adding nothing valuable to the content. Go back and have another read mate, i am not the only one that thinks that you are full of #$%*. I have absolutely nothing to say to you that hasn't already been said so don't bother spamming my PM's.

Yes, that much is clear, made obvious by the rest of your post.

I know people like you Laminar and to be quite honest, i don't like them either. I can't stand people that throw a spanner in the works just because they can, it is small minded and displays a complete lack of thought....Just as a matter of fact, I don't go looking to read your posts either, actually i avoid them, it just so happens that every time you end up in a thread i am looking at you are being a pain in the arse and there are a lot of guys that think the way i do, its just i don't mind speaking my mind.....if you don't like it then too bad......Try being part of the thread instead of being a smart arse.....The rest of your last  post was just trying to justify the rubbish you sprouted earlier...I'll take personal experience from a bunch of mechanical minded bikers than your "report" any day....

Next please...... ::)

Let me clarify what I'm trying to say - anecdotal evidence in support of a larger pattern is useless. It's only useful in countering a definitive statement.
....... What I meant to say is worthless is a single persons' perceptions as to a specific vehicle's reliability. Obviously, you can glean a lot about comfort, capability, and performance from reading specific experiences, keeping in mind that people are more likely to be forgiving to "their" brand and that a person's judgement is limited by his or her experience (someone that's never driven an Audi or Mercedes might believe an Impala has a nice interior, for example).........

My opinion on American trucks? get one...they're much more useful than a car. I've had a few, mostly fords, never had a dodge but I drove a few and wouldn't be embarrassed by one, and they performed well enough that if I didn't already have something similar at the time, woulda considered buying one. I'm a big fan of older vs newer mostly because older (imho) seem to be easier to work on, although newer ones do seem to last longer. Reality is tho....like has been mentioned, there are good ones and bad ones in every brand, and even in "littermates" i.e., one trunk off the line lasts for yrs, the truck coming off the line right behind it is a POS. If you're buying used, even previous maintenance doesn't really count. (singular anecdote) I had always wanted a K-5 blazer, my wifes stepdad had a 74 (350/auto) that I inherited when he passed. he was anal about maintenance and raved about how strong the tranny was in it. I had it a month, just driving back and forth to school, no offroad, and the tranny broke. Drive a bunch of them, decide what feels good to you, buy one, and if it's an older one and you really like it, buy another one for parts. Look around on the roads, you'll see all the brands out there...then go look in the wrecking yard, you'll see all the brands in there too, and the same spectrum of years. There is no good or bad, there is just what you like and what you don't like. Don't think I'd get one that wasn't 4x4 tho...specially in VT.....      Just to mention a couple previously neglected brands tho..... I was quite fond of my Wagoneers and my International pickup...

If you didn't own a truck, would you respond here?

Ok, If I had to pick American, I would go with a Ford or Chevy.

Vermont is the wrecking yard for most trucks and cars.  We drive them in to the ground, tow them out, and fix them.  Then we do it again until even Fred Flintstone wouldn't drive it.  The sheer amount of wrecks on the road up here is impressive.

I've had my S10 for about 6 or 7 years.  It's been pretty good to me, pretty comfy, decent power (could have more), and decent fuel economy for being a 4 wheel drive.  I have some minor maintenance issues to deal with but overall it's a pretty good old truck.  Just wish I'd bought a full size when I bought it.

I had a 2000 s10 and it had something like 195 hp. Given that it is a smaller truck, you really don't need any more power as the chassis itself can only take so much weight and pull so much. Drop into 4 low and you could almost pull a house off its foundation! But maybe your model is different than what I had.

Mine is like that too.  If I put it in 4 LO it tries to tear the drive shafts out.

wow guys! well I got a 03 dodge 1500 with a 5.9L (DD), givin up a 93' ford 150 with a 5.0 and a 72' chevy cheyenne super 20 with a worn out 5.7L. All are great and all each have their own problems. I just got back from a weekend trip to Dardanelle Arkansas in the dodge and it drove great other than getting 14mpg at 75 mph. But if I weight 6,200lb I'd get 4mpg... I've loaded the ford and dodge down and both did great

she' sittin in the back yard at my mum's. waitin to turn into a punkrod version of this. with a stroker 383 hidin under the hood.
I wanna do the big wheel kit and leave her knarly, add a 5th wheel and 2 runners on each side of the flatbed so I can either haul a 5th wheel trailer or 2 bikes.
Soooo would this go under the opinon of buying an old truck versus a new one?

New is nice to plug the computer in to tell you what is wrong, old means your the computer. Don't ask me where my plug is....

Buy something you feel is pretty, that way you will take care of it, and anything you take care of will last much longer.

Bad advice actually.

So just buy a "pretty" truck regardless of how many miles or how/if it runs?

I think not!

If I was buying something new, I'd do that, but I never buy new.  100k seems to be my starting point for owning anything with four wheels.  The last few vehicles have been +150K when I got them.

I just purchased a '91 Silverado 1500 for $400. I don't even know the mileage, I just know it runs but a bad transmission. That's a cheap fix for me. Cheap truck too and it's in great condition body wise.
