Sticky gearbox
« on: March 11, 2006, 01:00:58 PM »
Within the last 500km I've done, my gearbox seem to have become more sticky.

I'm running 10/40w oil, non-synthetic.

Sometimes my gearshiftlever sticks a bit when I've gotten it down in first gear.

What should I do? Change the shifter seal and oil as a start?

The shifter seal just keeps oil in the bike.  If it leaks, replace it.  It won't change how the transmission shifts.

Change the oil is a good plan.  10/40 is fine.  Use an oil that is blended with an additive package designed for motorcycles, not autos.  A dragging wet clutch preloads the transmision gears, making the shift process less than free moving.

You should check your clutch adjustment, as well.

I found this article in the tech library when trying to fix an noisy clutch, crunchy shifting and hard to find neutral. It helped mine, may be good for yours. A good read if nothing else.
