Brother I was just reading some of your build and the bike looks great! I saw where you were looking for shocks and I have some as well as a bunch of other GS1100E parts like rims with nice tires, brakes, all kinds of parts. Let me know if you can use any of it.

I was about to spend $300.00+ for some new shocks. What do you have? photo?

I just spent 5 hours striping the paint off one of my wheels and wet sanding the shiny bits to 600 grit, so I will probably carry on and keep the ones I have.

Feel free to email any photos of what you have, I'm still hunting for all sorts of stuff.

Brother I will look at the shocks in the morning for you. I have a lot of GS1100E parts. I will look and see what all I have but I know I have a excellent tank with no dents that is already sanded down, nice fender, rims, brakes, left front fork, etc. Here are a few photos and I will take photos of the shocks for you tomorrow as it is dark here now.

Those wheels look like new!
Crap.

I could use the 2 cross over hoses. I circled one of them.

Finally finished paint removal, wet sanding and taping of one wheel. What a nightmare, another 4 hours taping and razor blade ::)

joeyputt, give me a rating between 1-10 of your wheels please.  Based on the time it took to do my rear wheel, the front one of mine will take 15 hours min of wet sanding to get the crud off the shiny bits, and it will still look like #$%*!

I also realized today that the rear disc I have is very gouged/ ....FuKC!!

Blast cabinet! $100 well spent IF you have a compressor plus it'd look good in there  ;D .

i hope you hold onto it and love it as i do mine.

don't be overly shocked if it tries to kill you first time you open the taps in anger but thats half the thrill. if your carb to head or airbox rubbers are even moderately firm (not supple) piss them off as those, and not running a restrictive enough aircleaner are the biggest killers of consistent running that you can encounter (trying to rev it flatout while testing with no airbox only got me to about 4500 rpm and it sounded like a hoover). float height is also important and the valve clearances don't take long the second time round. if you have the cam cover off, check the o-rings on the two front centre head bolts as mine were hard as rocks and she started spewing oil whenever she got warm.

still got to do up dads 82 GS1100G. nicer to ride for distances and less tempting to ring its throat but god the 4 valver makes you feel alive.

Just did some math.

Bike + fairing, shop manual, brand new shocks, all the carb kits, throttle cable, filters, bulbs and lenses, paint supplies for forks, frame, engine, vinegar, carb cleaner and brand new exhaust, http://www.nichecycle.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=003-0609&type=0&eq

I'm only into it for $1500.00 so far.  ;D

lovely lovely murky float bowl crud. mine had what seemed like antifreeze floating round and one of the emulsion tubes had corroded not through, but definitely enough to warrant supplanting. got access to an ultrasonic parts bath? i haven't am too stingey to pay someone to use theirs. if your fuel transfer tube o-rings aren't leaking then you can leave the carbs as a block and just go rank with carb cleaner and save time on synching them at least till she's well sorted.

they look good naked and legless to my mind and shes coming along nicely.

The tiny washer in the photo is my problem right now.
There is one of these in every carb kit I received, but after cleaning 3 and reassembling I could find no where to put it and assumed it was meant for another similar carb.

I did the carbs one at a time and poured the carb cleaner through a cloth strainer each time before going on to the next one.
This morning when I drained the last pail, I found that tiny O-ring at the bottom and have no idea what it fell out of.
Now I am wondering where the hell it goes?

Could that o-ring go in the idle mixture screw?  I am not familiar with Mikuni's?, but often when you remove the idle mixture screw the o-ring will stay stuck down in the hole.  Try using a small hook to fish around in there(custom bent paperclip perhaps?).
If it works good, it looks good...

I lost one of those o-rings one time and was saved by a chick hanging around the garage.  Her ear ring utilized a similar sized o-ring on the pin that goes through the ear lobe!

I can just see the o-ring in the other 3 carbs seated in their happy spot.
I think I will leave them alone ::)

OK, I went back and did it right.
This bike has been more than I expected when I took it on.
I should know better.    The hours just go and go and go.........

Just ordered all the extra o-rings not included in the kits, these frickin carbs are going to be the death of me!
