CB350F Cafe'd Finished!
« on: June 14, 2009, 10:54:17 AM »
Just received the seat back from the upholsterer yesterday.  I was more than happy with the result.  For the exception of front fender, it's hereby declared finished!  I plan to take it to the Vintage Days at MidOhio this year.  Hope to see other lister's bikes as well.

Here's a link to the entire slideshow:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/indyrider/sets/72157610600474483/show/ Notice the state it was in when the project started!

Beautiful, just beautiful.

I gotta know more about the seat.  You cut foam to the correct shape and than built it out of metal.  Did you do it?  If so how?  English wheel and time?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks,

Matt

I gotta know more about the seat.

Agreed!  The "hump" in the front is real classy!

Thanks!

The seat pan was taken to the upholsterer as below:

The hump at the front was added with dense foam.  I'm suprised at how comfortable the seat is for being only about  1" foam!

The seat was mocked up in glued layers of blue foam, then carved to shape.  I'll be honest in that a local friend did the work for me.  He used an English Wheel and a Planishing Hammer to get the desired shape....done all in aluminum.  The tail light is a glass Lucas unit, commonly found on old MGA's/Austin Healey's.

Thanks for that info.

If your friend is bored and wants to build a seat for a 750, let me know!  That's easily the best seat I've seen.

I know how I want my seat to look, just don't have anywhere near the skills to pull it off.  Plus any shop around here wants $$$$$ to do any custom work.

That looks great!!

I noticed you have pods on your carbs. what kind are they and where did you get them?

Also, where is your oil tank? because my 750 has a seperate oil tank behind one of the side covers.

Also, where is your oil tank?

It has a wet clutch........which means all the oil stays in the engine.

i think only the 750 has a dry sump system. everything else is wet sump- no oil tank.

If you want additional pics of the tank mods necessary, shoot me a PM.  I should have plenty of photo's to give you what you need.  The Benelli Mojave tank isn't difficult at all to work with.

I've just finished up the twin to this bike...I need to get pics posted.
