CB400 Crankshaft play
« on: March 12, 2006, 01:22:22 PM »
Hi,

While test fitting my crankshaft with fresh bearings to check clearances (all bearings were within tolerance), I noticed that if I grasp the bolt that secures the rotor and give a tug, the crank will slide slightly, accompanied with a small "clunk". It is not sliding far, but it is there. If I push on the bolt the crank will slide back, accompanied with another small "clunk". Is this normal? Is there a maximum allowable tolerance for such movement, and if so, how would one measure it? All of my case bolts were in and torqued to spec.

Thanks for the help! John

That's normal. There is no way to adjust it anyway.
