K7 head, is it the same as K1- K6.....?
« on: November 02, 2010, 08:15:58 PM »
I have read and heard so much that I'm confused ??? lol

I may possibly have a valve job done on my K7 head, stainless valves, heavier springs, and Ti retainers. I have read that it is the same as the F0/F1 head, which to my understanding is 75 -76?
Then I have read that it is the same as the K8 head, aren't the K8 and the F2 the same...?
So the K8/F2 has different valve retainers.... right?

My head has the 392 stamped in it, so the head itself maybe the same style as the 78/F2, but what about the valve train?
All I'm wanting to know is, will K1 - K6 valves, retainers, springs and maybe guides work on a K7 head....?

I read this thread, http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=11908.0  and it was never really answered i guess, kinda confused me more.... ;D

I was looking at Dynoman and like every where, parts are listed K1 -K6, and then 77 -78F2.....

Any help will be appreciated.

K7 head is identical to the F0/F1 completely including hardware. All 392. If you compare these combustion chambers to earlier K heads you will see the difference. Hemi'ish vs shrouds. There MAY be a volume difference also that partially accounts for the different compression ratio but I have never seen anyone provide any figures. I would like to see someone cc these heads and report in.

The difference in the K8 head is not the head itself, which is still a 392, but rather the hardware. It has stronger springs which are identical to the F2/F3 springs, the retainers and keepers are different and MAY be the F2/F3 retainers, the valves are the same sizes as all the K's and F0/F1 but are different due to the fitting of the keepers and retainers. You'll have to compare part numbers for the springs, keepers and retainers to the F2/F3 to be certain.

The K stuff would work fine from any of the years in a 392 head.

Thank you Jerry!
I looked the part numbers up on servicehonda, and the valves, keepers, retainers, are all the same part number for 73K to 77K, I only went back as far as 73 to compare. Then the 78K has the same part numbers as the 77F 78F, as you posted.
