Nothing's gonna change my world
« on: November 01, 2010, 09:16:35 PM »

Quite possibly, one of the best songs ever written.

The original:

The first version I ever heard ( Everyone should own "Young Americans")...possibly better than the original?

And Fiona... GOD! She's hot....and she does justice to the tune...

Which one is your favorite version?

Fiona!!! I first heard her cover on a dvd slide show a very good friend put together, chronicling the birth of her daughter. It changed the whole meaning of the song for me; made it so much more personal....

Fiona's definitely got it...Can't top the Beatles for originality, but her interpretation is great. Video is kinda odd tho... dang takes me right back to the early days...

This is the first time I saw the Video; yeah, kind of odd. The slide show I saw, with this sound track, was about a new life. Really grabbed me..

Definitely the Beatles.  I like the other versions, but the original was the first one I got to know, and it's one of those songs that have stuck with me through my life, and it's meaning to me evolves as I get older and go through my own changes.

Definitely the Beatles.

There's about three or four versions of this song floating around.
One without the animal sounds, another without the Phil Spector orchestration, a couple of other rehearsal versions.

Lennon once stated he felt it was one of his best songs.  It was written when the Beatles went to Rishikesh, India in  May of '68.
(the trip was cut short by the death of Brian Epstein.)

I have to go with the Beatles but Fiona's is very good vocally.
BUT, I hardly ever like songs redone by other groups.

The Fiona Apple video goes along with the movie it was featured in, Pleasantville. Great movie.

Yes, but the first released version was the one on the WWF benefit album.

Indeed you are correct sir. Some folks might find this link interesting.  http://eternosbeatles.blogspot.com/
I highly recommend the Rhine River Tapes.

I'm gonna go with Bowie's version of Across the Universe. Bowie makes it his own without taking anything away from the original. Had to turn Fiona off, just sounds too much like a little kid for my taste.

Thanks for postin' that Grngr.  I heard that album a long time ago and loved it.  Only problem was I couldn't remember the artist, only the cover photo.  I've been looking for that album cover for years but it's tuff to find by the photo!
