DSS order: Carb manifold rubbers
« on: November 01, 2010, 11:34:22 PM »
Hi, I just ordered some Carb manifold intake rubbers from David Silver Spares. To replace the stock ones that were hard as a rock. (The ones that go in between the motor and the carbs.) Well these one's are quite hard also. My 155 LB self can stand on them with one foot on them one in the air and hand on the table. And they won't really bend or flex much is this normal? They have the new Honda sticker on them on the bag so the have to be fairly new... But they don't seem much if any softer then the stock 35 year old rubbers.

That is normal. I ordered several of them in the past and they belong to be hard. To make mounting easier you can heat these rubbers gently with a electric hairdryer or so and use some silicone spray (that is safe for rubbers).

ive boiled old ones in water and applied oil to the surfaces with good success,if these are new old stock they are aging aswell and losing the suppleness they had in the 70s?

Putting oil on rubber is not a good idea. It will dry the rubber and makes it hard. Silicone spray is the best way to make rubber smooth
