I don't think i've ever heard anyone that lives in America refer to it as the "colonies".  did you move here from Britain per chance?

Up here in Alaska, I refer to the Lower 48 as "The States" all the time.  Makes me sound more Canadian. 8)

VAT is only charged within the UK or EU countries, there's no charge to the rest of the world.

In Merry old England, many items are not subject to Value Added Tax, those things that are deemed essentials for civilised existence, but not including toilet paper, it's taxed  :o :o

In the colony of Vermont, the politicians are trying to pass an internet tax on
buyers and sellers!

Oh oh, looks like a VAT , almost.

This will be a real pain for those of us whom live here and sell on the internet.
Seems to me the state of California already has this tax, don't they?

peace,
michel

NO. Just like buying parts from out of your own state here does not incur taxes.

NY does (kinda)...so that probably means yes.  Whenever I buy presents on Amazon and a few other sites and ship them to NY I get charged tax.

That has to be because either Amazon is in  NY or has a branch doing business in NY.  In Pa, there is tax if the business has a branch in the state, otherwise no tax on out of state transactions.

Normally, that would be correct, but was not the case with Amazon.  They were gotten on a technicality:

As far as i am concerned, that is bull#$%* Dave, they add VAT when selling locally and just don't charge it when selling offshore...I have bought from England, Europe, Japan and the US and NEVER paid that countries taxes, they are local taxes.....And if i read your post correctly, if they are not registered for the tax then how can they charge it..?     Sam .....Simon....anyone....?

just an update here, ive emailed and had responses on my requests for quotes including shipping to australia from a couple more dealers for the same thing, with out mentioning vat,and all have been within a dollar or two of the first one.,another replied asking exactly what it was i wanted as they had no idea what a "boyer kit00089" was ,even though their web site clearly shows they sell and fit boyer units, and are listed under the boyer dealers list, the part numbers for their brand of bikes are similar with the prefix though.
