CB715 go fast tricks?
« on: January 21, 2011, 04:14:42 PM »
So I just picked up a CB175 from a friend for free. Just as I got started on my 750 build. I have decided the 175 is now priority. Does anyone out there know of any ways to hot rod these engines to make a bit more power? Carb swap from a diferent model?  cam? anything would help!

They are raced frequently.

Mike has done at least one 160/175 head (they are different, but similar.)

You can ask over at caferacer.net

There's a few over there that race them. Look for jbranson over there. He's quite friendly.

Drop it down a mineshaft mate, it'll never go any faster than that!  ;)
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Carguy

Send the motor over to Mike. The 175 race motor he built for me last year had tons of power. I wailed that poor motor all season in every race. It ran up front all year without a problem.

You need the valves done with Kibble White over size. The carbs change to Keihin PE24 with some slick manifolds. Custom pistons and possibly a trick cam set up. You will be making power.

I have been gridded as a second wave behind Honda 350's. I can out run all but the fastest stock 350's on the track. Not bad for a motor that's half the size.

Gene

Look for me to even faster this year.

okay, but what if I'm not building a race bike? I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money on it. what about swapping carbs from another model?

Also I'm trying to find a scrambler style exhaust for it. Does anyone know where I could find a good aftermarket set?

Since it's the head that's restrictive, the port design not so hot, low compression (9:1) combustion chamber, and rather mild cam profile that make it 'slow', all you'd end up doing is reducing low end power by slapping some larger carbs on it.

Dunno of anyone making aftermarket scrambler pipes for it, but I seem to remember Paulages having some orginals. PM him, see what he wants for em.

There are 2 styles of engine vertical and sloper, you need the pipes to match. The pipes can be got, the mufflers are absolute crap and corrode. I am looking for a right pipe with muffler at present for my 1973 CL175.
