ive worn wayfarers for years and years, because they are quite durable and give good cover over the eye,i never liked the wrap around style because light got in sideways, there was a time not long ago when they were hard to locate, now they seem to be in fashion,so i guess now i look in fashion or something?ive kept all the old ones that got a bit scratched as spares, maybe four pairs!ill swap them for a dunstall tank or something!or put them on ebay as collectors items!

It was...but he sold it shortly after completion, and now the guy flipped it in a month is standing to make a very sizable profit, it seems...which sucks.  Hard.

tl;dr  :)
One thing that happens during fads though, if it gets beg enough, companies start producing parts for the most common bikes used.
I figure the cb is pretty common and so while prices might go up for a while, the availability of new parts may also increase. but I may be wrong.

Guess you shoulda read, even if it was too long.  I believe that was already mentioned back there at least once...   ;) :D ;)

Of course, it's pretty long, so I'm not gonna go back and double check... ;D

I followed the Joe the "Traveler" thread on that bike for so long. Those are my points covers on there. I dont know, its like watching a buddies kid grow up and leave the house. Just sad. I wanted to go for a whip on it. To put that much time and thought into a project...then to sell it and watch it be traded up and out. I will buy that bike back someday.

Don't worry. In 3-5 years when the fad has sufficiently imploded, you'll be able to pick it up for $1500.

I think every one should settle down. I've been into vintage bikes for a long time and one thing I know is that I'm the opposite of cool. So by that logic, Cafes are NOT cool ;D.

I don't have enough cushion on my ass to ride one of those. ;D  The idea of spending a lot of money/time to make a bike uncomfortable escapes me.  Now some of these are called racers and Joe would throw it out there that he had a racer and others didn't.  But who is really racing them?  So being a poser is now cool? ;D

I don't think the prices will be coming down for a looooong time.

Case in point - assuming he can sell it for close to his asking price
1981 Yamaha XS650 Special II (U05362) - $2995 (Auburn)
For Sale! Pre-owned 1981 Yamaha XS 650 Special II, Blue with only 6632 miles!
Short Description: A beautiful classic to add to any collection! Ready to ride!
Additional Documentation fee applies.

Let's see. What else is out there for $3000. Well...
2004 Suzuki SV650 (6 speed) - $2800 (Auburn)

2008 Ducati Superbike 1098S - $2953 (tacoma) - 2000 miles

and a slew of gsxr's, r6's etc.

I feel like a crotchity old man - "Why, I remember when..."  :P

There's no way a 08 1098s is going for $2900.

Well...that's a big "if" right there, but I see your point.

...and that Ducati is really, really fishy.  I bought my Vulcan 800 for more than that.

You don't honestly beleive you can get that Ducati for $2953.00 do you?

Yeah, I'm just popping them up there as examples. The whole idea, for me at least, was that the base machine in "reasonable" condition was fairly cheap and you could then rack up however much you were going to putting it back together. It looks like the base $500 machine is a rarity at this point when just 3 years ago it could be had with some hunting. Still can I suppose, but everyone seems to think if it's over 20 years old it automatically gets a $1000 tacked on to the price cause it's "classic" even for the ugly machines like the XS.

Now get off of my yard or I'll call the cops!

I honestly believe $3000 buys you a whole lot of motorcycle today - even if that one is suspect. That's really all I'm trying to get across.

How about an actual low production (by CB standards) ground breaking machine

82 gs1000s Katana - $3000

Still in the no one really knows category.

Edit: Oh #$%*. Don't look at that.

3 grand does buy you a whole lot of motorcycle these days.  Why even $1500 will buy you just as much motorcycle as $3000 will.  As for the cafe thing, it is a fad.  Trust me I know, because I have been one of those guys restoreing those bikes to stock.  While everyone is doing the popular thing, I am taking their money all those GS450 gas tanks, etc. and laughing the whole time.  The next thing will probably be rat bikes.  I am saying this because I showed up with my ratty CB500K to a bike show and all the cafe guys were drooling over it.  This bike became rattty over time, not because the paint was peeling and I decided to paint everything with black primer.  The way I am looking at it is if I can sell some of my very rusty and dented  parts to these guys and get more then what the scrap yard will give me then it is not that bad.
