That is correct. The HD is now yesterdays news among the trendy people since they are like. The same for the big twin Chopper  Trendy people are always looking for the next status thing. So, Cafes are so European and mildly retro, so that is the next step. About 10 years ago Greenwich Village was filled with SOHC Hondas, they were a favorite among Gay men. they tend to be trendy, so expect our bikes to come back into vogue.

I'm really surprised it hasn't caught on at this site yet, actually... as I understand it, it's some kind of compromise for the inability to really bob bikes in Japan or something like that, but I could be wrong. To me it just looks like a half-assed custom with fat wheels and a bad looking seat.

here's a "brat style" XS:

2008 Ducati Superbike 1098S - $2953 (tacoma) - 2000 miles

and a slew of gsxr's, r6's etc.

I feel like a crotchity old man - "Why, I remember when..."  :P

Iggy

You don't honestly beleive you can get that Ducati for $2953.00 do you?

BTW, this is a confirmed case of Fraud!

The guy sent me a request for payment allegedly through Ebay, but the funds would need to be sent via Western Union and received before he would release the bike. Also claims that the bike is in Victoria Texas at a shipping depot. No mention of freight charges either.

Reported to Ebay and confirmed. Fraud!

It’s now official. The café bike craze has pushed the prices to new highs.
Seems everyone wants to be like YOU!

This CB550 is currently on Ebay with 18 bids at $5600.00 still with 1 day before closing as of this post.

Listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-CB-cb550-honda-cb550-cb-550-cafe-racer-custom-cr750-rat-rod-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c16c372caQQitemZ120640991946QQptZUSQ5fmotorcycles

That’s one nice Café bike, but please people.

Wow! It sold for $6500.00 with the BIN option.

Start listing fella's

I believe Joe had that much or more into. He took a loss so some one else could turn a profit. Free market I guess, however my point is you may get what you put into it however getting a profit back from it is rare, however if it does become or has become the latest trend that will change. Look at Harleys, sorry but those bikes are just way over priced for what they are and its only because it was/is cool to have one. Shame really.

All just my opinion....

come to chicago sometime, its terrible how these rich white kids go on craigslist find a running honda and throw some clubmans and a seat on it and ride it repping this cafe racer status. personally i dont think a cafe racer should be a phrase that is tossed around when properly identifying a bike. a cafe racer to me means; a vintage race bike without a fairing that is street legal. not something with "the look". ive gotten tons of looks while on my cb (painted/clubmans/exhaust/no fenders) and when asked "isnt that a cafe racer?" i always say no. ive spend over 50 hours and 200 bones on my head and carb setup, but by no means has my engine been "raced out". the hipster kids will find their niche someplace else, but as for now via driving up prices/seeing complete basket case jap bikes on ebay with "cafe racer" tag or in the title. i must say it burns me up a bit. i dont feel like my bike or anything close to stock could ever be a cafe racer. no one likes a poseur.

I own the rights to that word. I am willing to share in the "frankenracer" lifestyle. You must be overweight, balding, have a bad back, and a project SOHC that hasnt run in 5 or more years but damn.......when it does....watchout.

Maybe I will make a patch for "frankenracer" like an uber cool un cafe type cafe club. (no frigging checkers)

to me a cafe racer is more about the way the intent of the rider is expressed through the machine. If your broke the first thing you buy might be clubmans because they drastically affect your position on the bike, and the way it feels ridden hard through turns. It might not be faster yet but who cares ,next you might buy tires while you rearrange the instrument cluster and remove un-necesary things.. someday maybe you will end up with a near race spec bike, but because of your intent and in particular how you ride, your bike was always a cafe racer....
this also means you cant buy a ready made cafe racer, of coursethere might be very little to do to a bike with alot of work already done to it

Cafe racers back in the day had nothing to do with "motor" go fast mods and were simply done by getting rid of as much extra wieght as you could, and riding the balls outta ur bike from point "A" to point "B". You picked up a surplus bike and stripped off all the crap you didn't need and put on low bars to get into the "tuck" position and rode the snot outta ur bike you built, usually for a bull#$%* bet over a beer or whatever.
Props to all the guys bringing anything old outta the junkyards and barns and making them anything. Its all about the ride not the style.
My 1st cafe was a 1978 CB 750F SS,(wich in its own right was past the CAFE time pieriod) as far as I cared It was fast enough (Was it as fast as my 2000 CBR 600 F4,  HELL NO!!) But it didnt matter, it just needed to go on a diet to loose unneeded pounds. So I stripped all the #$%* off and put on a solo seat and clubmans and I had a blast ripping around on it. And most of the time could take most of the modern day naked bikes that pulled up next to me. Then at the next stop light to be asked what the hell I was riding, where I just simply said "MY BIKE".

i agree. perfect example would be anyone who wrenches on their own bike. panty hose filters, drilled jets, chopped mufflers, anything weight reduction. and rides that bike like it would run down a 4 second funny car. opposed to the dude who polishes his 7500 dollar honda cb750 with all the new parts in the world on it, but couldnt tell you what redline sounds like.

wrenching builds character, the builder and the bike.
