F3 750 - My neutral light is now a clutch light
« on: November 04, 2010, 08:35:46 AM »
The bike is a 1978 CB7503. The wiring harness is from the F3. The engine is out of a 1972 K2 750.

This is more an annoyance than anything. My neutral light comes on whenever I use the clutch. Pull in the lever, the light comes on, no matter what gear I am in. This really only presents an issue when I am parking and looking for neutral. If the clutch lever is not in use the neutral light operates correctly. I know the clutch and neutral light are interlinked by the safety system so the starter will not operate unless the bike is in neutral and/or the clutch is disengaged. What is going on that makes the neutral light eome on with the clutch? Does this have something to do with the inline diode?

Right now my neutral light actually is a "your starter can be used now" light. Any ideas?

Suspect the diode in the starter safety circuit
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
