A very cool "What is it?" picture
« on: November 05, 2010, 11:42:56 AM »
I took this picture last night, and thought I would share it here.  As the title states, who knows what this is?  The winner gets absolutely nothing.  Well, maybe an explanation.  ;)
It took 10 years but she's finally done!

Cool pic.

+1 Definitely looks like magnetized iron particles.

Edit: Upon further examination of the blown-up picture, I'm gonna say something like solder or welding splatter ...

Looks exactly like some solder splatter.  i've saved many of those over the years to attempt to photograph them, but it didn't work!

you should check out the pieces that you'll find on the ground in a steel mill, PRETTY cool!!

Yikes!!! I hope not!
But you are very close.  It is metal shavings from a bolt I had to drill out on the front sprocket cover.  Then I used the magnet to clean it up.  It was very cool to see how the shavings were reacting in the magnetic filed; they moved like water as I picked them up off the frame.  Once the shavings were free of the frame they froze in this configuration.  Cool, huh?

Stuff the magnet pulled out of your engine.
