Seattle area?
« on: November 06, 2010, 06:53:28 AM »
I thought it would be good to start a thread for Seattle area SOHC4 riders.  This way we can have a small support network for help with wrenching and rides.

I am down in the dirty south, Tacoma....

What's happening guys. New guy here and also new to the scene. I just picked up my project bike 2 weeks ago. It's a '72 CB500 with a 550 motor (pics to come). Looking forward to chatting about bikes and whatever else. Oh and I'm also living in "Wet" Seattle.

Cheers.

Hey Ray!
Welcome to the group!
There is a gathering of all kinds of bikes in Ballard on April 20th, Backfire Motorcycle Night. If your "project" is up and running you should try and swing by.

Just realized I missed this. Damn! Hope it was a good turn out. I just put on a new tank and side covers. The bike is just about ready.

Gotta question in regards to cold starts (first one of the day). My bike is kinda cold blooded. Doesn't really like to start in the morning or if it's been sitting for more than a day. Kick starting doesn't help any. Usually have to keep on the electric start for a few seconds, then I get a few sputters like it wants to start, then I give a little gas when it sounds like it wants to start, then it will eventually start. When it's warmed up, it's great. Starts right up. Even on the kick starter.

My first suspicion is the fuel to the spark plugs. What I've noticed after it not wanting to start after a while is that the spark plugs are wet with fuel and black. After a good cleaning, and they don't look that old, it starts up right away. It's the initial first start that it always does this. Do my carburetors need to be adjusted to fix this? I have new spark plugs to put in, but like I said they don't look that old or bad once cleaned up.

Any recommendations or advice is much appreciated.

Update. Figured it out. Just needed a fully charged battery to get it going.

Cheers

Hey Ardilla, if that's what your bike looks like today I saw you cruising Fauntleroy last friday evening. Nice saddle bags!

Yes sir, that was me. Thanks! Those bags were what made me want to buy the bike. I just don't see them around that much on old honda's.

Cheers.

You don't happen to ride a white honda CB 550 four do you? I saw one sometime last week on CA. ave near my house.

Yep that was me. Small world. I'd like to put some white hard bags on my bike. I think it would set off the old skool look.

If I see you around I may flag you down to say Hey and see how the bags attach to these bikes. I could either find some brackets or make my own. My neighbor has a decent little shop with welders, grinders, and such.

See ya around for sure. There is another member, brianzenk that lives up on gatewood hill. We could almost have our own little SOHC4 West Seattle chapter and meet up at Beverage place. Hasta.
