F engine indentification
« on: December 07, 2010, 05:59:45 PM »
This is to all the Super Sport guys out there.  I'm just trying to figure out which engine is in my F3.  I know it's not the orginal, because the numbers don't match.  What is there is a CB750E-2509584 engine.  I checked the Honda Chopper site and it listed it as a F0 engine.  I'm a little confused I thought SS engines had an F indetifier not E, but the number shows F0.

So do I have an F0 engine or a K engine?

Any insight would be awesome, thanks guys.

Yes, its an early F motor that is most similar to a K.  The pistons have a slight dome like the K7-K8. Minor gear changes in 4th and 5th, and maybe a slightly improved cam grind.  More reliable valve-train than the later black motors.

Thanks Scrambler,

I thought that was the case I just wanted someone who knows more then me to confirm it for me.  I am actually happy it's not the more troublesome F engines.

BTW good to talk to you again, we met at Barber this year in the VJMC area.

Here's a very good reference for serial numbers and comes from the Honda published Motorcycle Identification Guide:
