Big pair of adj pliers will work too.

"Nipples for grease"?!? Maybe KY Jelly, but grease??? [the wifey would not go for that!]
Oh, on your bike? I'm guessing you mean the zerk fitting!!!!!! HA!

I want it noted, that the use of the term "grease nipple" was from page 79 of the manual - not from my own demented imagination....

Seems they were a little more risque back in 1976!!!  Swinging 70's I guess :)

UPDATE:

Despite not having the replacement part, I couldn't keep my hammer and screwdriver to myself, and had a go at the glob of gray matter. With a few key shots, I was able to get a couple chunks to come right off.

Not wanting to be completely stupid, and opening up what I assume was a leak (causing the PO to mess this thing up good!), I left it at that.

New (used) replacement on the way, and I'll have this thing whipped yet. Below, a photo update of what the whacks exposed...

I think that I can make out the color on that taped wire as being blue/red  That is your oil light.

that's really weird that the whole mess was globbed up.  I have seen switch units that leaked but why wouldn't the PO just get a new switch?  They cost about the same as a tube of JBWELD.  Can you thread the switch out of the housing?  Can you see damage to the housing?  Just weird.  PO's suck!

PO probably didn't have a laptop and this forum wasn't around yet when the switch leaked. He did have JBWeld from riggin some other toys, and wa-la, fixed. Wrong!

I havent tried to take all the goop off yet for fear of springing a leak. I think I'll wait for your replacement first.

The wire is definitely the oil light. When I first removed the cover I was so excited to see it there - thinking the PO had just decided to unhook it. But then a slight glance left revealed the goop. And that's when the heart sunk. :)

Take a crescent wrench to that sending unit (oil light switch) and I bet you it wil turn. Loosen it 1/8 turn for peace of mind (that is in fact removeable) then tighten it back and wait for the replacement to arrive.

It won't leak unless you start the motor [and build oil pressure]

Oh, you know just how to temp me :).

Part is on it's way, and I've got plenty to get to, so I'll probably hold off.  But then again, I don't have a wrench in my hand right now.  But tomorrow....

Yeah, wa-la!

According to another Texan, the term used there is actually "willa".
Maybe you and Groovy2 can get together and work up a Texas lexicon for us?  In the interest of better communication, you know.  ;D

I will say that I have a sister living in Texas.  She doesn't use "wa-la" or "willa" as an interjection within a sentence, but rather "voila".  Then again, she and I were educated in an Illinois school system long ago.  ;D

You're welcome!    :D

P.S. I get a kick out my car's GPS mispronouncing names, too.  ...Like when it phonetically pronounces "expwy".
Also, there's a street near where I live called Calaveras.  For some unexplained reason, it accents either the first "a" or the "e" in the name depending on whether you are traveling east or going west.

Makes me wonder how someone new to the area or who doesn't know any Spanish would pronounce it thereafter.  ;)

We got some funny ones out here too...Tigard (Ty-gurd) frequently gets "tigger'd", Tualatin (to ALL atin) sometimes gets "to a Latin", Willamette (will AM ette) gets "Will a Mettie" a lot...gotta love them indian names... ;D   and got NO idea why folks think Vancouver is in Canada...or Portland is on the EAST coast.... ;D ;D

I write "wa-la" 'cause that is the way I would pronounce it.
Don't know about willa.

Threadjack over, now back to the "bodgejob".
[I would say botched job!]

Botched job would be completely appropriate, based on the end result of POs work.

Bodge comes from the vespa world (no idea it's origin) which mainly refers to Vespas coming to USA from from southeast Asia that have been welded together from several different scooters, with all the nightmares hiding underneath the gloss of some chrome and accessories.  They look beautiful and classic.  Not until they spilt (often while riding) in half do you realize what lies beneath.

In this case, I was just referring to the fact that this gray matter was hidden beneath the cover, only exposed once I finally unscrewed it and got in there.

and then, to my surprise...voilà. A #$%* storm provided by the PO :)

Below is a picture of a classic "vietbodge" Lambretta.  This is what happens when a 'botched' resto job turns into 'bodge.' :). Weld gave way, and could have killed someone!

I was lucky to only be dealing with a faulty oil pressure mechanism...

Thankyou
to stev-o and TT
for the wonderful humor segment surrounding the "Vua-La" moment.
That made me laugh 'cause my wife uses the term (correctly, according to TT) from time to time.

Thankyou again for the good laugh.
