CB 750 K6 Front Forks
« on: November 11, 2010, 08:41:51 AM »
When I bought my 1976 750, it had king/queen seat and longer than stock front forks (probably 2 to 4 inches longer).  I converted it back to stock as much as possible including a new stock seat and replaced the old forks with used stock ones - I think were from a 750K F.  These work ok, but might have a few miles on them and seem a little sloppy.   I have already put in new seals and replaced the oil.  But now I am thinking about new tubes as the chrome has come off they go into the top seals; I wonder if this might tighten things up?  Found some tubes on Cycle X that are standard 23 13/16 length - do you think these will work and help?  Thanks

Still sloppy after new seals and oil?

Thought about high performance progressive springs?

What type oil you using?  ...I use a heavier weight oil to stiffen things up a little.

I think they have progessive springs, but have not tried heavy oil - put in whatever the factory specs recommended

i purchased a set of those fork tubes from cycle x last year...they come with seals and new dust boots but my problem had been and continues to be small amounts of oil leaking out the top around the seals.  any ideas?  i think i may just try some heavier weight oil.  the amount that leaks isn't much but it is frustrating.

I did not get new tubes, but after replacing the seals and oil, I had a small amount of oil come out the top as well.  I did not add more oil and eventually it stopped; I figured maybe I put too much in. Mine seem to function just fine after the oil stopped, but the replacements do not seem to be as tight as the originals with the extra length - maybe I should just have the orignal ones cut down to stock lenght by a machine shop

the "standard" cycle x size is not standard at least for the k6. I just went through all this.  THe k6 standard size is 22 13/16 (cycle x sells it as a -1). I ended up buying a used set from a 750f. Supposedly the Later F models used "better chrome", i cant confirm that though.

Also, are you sure you put in enough oil?

Good to know about the K6 & cyclex is too short - thank you.  Maybe I should just cut down the originals.  I think there is enough oil, but hard to check.
