I think the exhaust is an old MAC system.  I passed on that bike at $400.  He must have come to his senses.  I never know if I am the first guy to look and I am bursting some dudes bubble or the last guy and he is ready to seriously deal.  It does take quite a bit of my time finding out.  I also bought a 750 last night. 1977 CB750F SS all original, needs slip on muffler and cafe mods, $275. Last Sunday it was a KZ400 for $75.00 title and engine turns over. They are out there.

The PO was a young guy still in school, didnt have time for it.

valves and timing are done, carbs are off and soaking,  one of the float valves spring was stuck and another was in backward ha ha.
Ill have it running by tonight or tomorrow on all cylinders, ye haw.

Mike (kingcustom), did you tell me once that you had an easy wiring setup for the 750 for your bobbers?   Not sure if im going to go original with this one, either way im going to need a newer harnes.  And do you have a thumb latch for the tank cap,  the cap that closes on the hing is fine but the little thumb latch is broken?

Nice find at a good price............the oil stains on the fins suggest that the cam-tower gasket-pads are leaking. On start up and running down the road a few miles at speed, look for oil near the exhaust ports. The fix may only require the new tower gaskets but you have to pull the motor from the frame.  Its still a nice find.

Yes i noticed that, Thanks! for that advice.  Im still debating on whether i should get it running enough to make a little profit,  or just spend the winter tearing it down and really fixing her up.  Leaning toward the winter project ideal.  Ive never taken one to bare frame yet and really want to,  the wiring harness is intimidating me at the moment, but ill get over it.  they really messed up the left and right switches, nothing works right.  I have a buddy in my town that restores vintage dirt bikes, and is very good at fork and shock rebuilds. He can also re spoke my rims and change my tires.

ill start a project thread if i happen to go for it.

This is ludicrous there is totally nothing like that out here on the east coast (VA). You'd be lucky to find a bike in ANY condition for even 2-3x that price.

Let's see pics of it. It wasn't a CL find was it? There are way too many over-priced bikes on CL. I check it everyday.

Here are my 3 bikes in the last month for $250.00 - $300  each.  Its actually better for me to buy a parts bike to fix up another bike than it is to buy all the individual parts off ebay.

1972 CB500  (asking 1200.00 got it for 250.00)  PO's wife wanted it gone :)   Sold same day for $400

1972 CB750 (asking 250 and i gave it to him :P)

1975 CB550 fairly complete bike, i actually paid $300  got what i needed and sold rest for $413.00

the deals are out there you just have to get em down.

here's a vid,  im pretty much an idiot i call it a 74' when its a 72',  and i rev rev rev it at the begining trying to get it to idle cause the spring is very loose on the carb.  hate when people rev the crap out of a bike when they first start it but oh well.

Seems like the valves are ticking alot, maybe they are a bit loose.  Seems like it runs pretty good now that i cleaned the carbs. I havent done the timing light yet, but did a static timing.

thanks StevO

i couldnt believe it when i saw it pop up on CL,  it was 3 hours away so i asked my friend in GOshen, Indiana, to take a 15 min drive down there after church to get it for me.  I called the guy selling it and begged him to hold it till my friend could get there lol. I was a nervous wreck till my buddy sent me a pic of it in his front seat on his way back home.  I owe him a very nice lunch, haha.

i was previously looking at cheap seat covers for the typical $50-80 and then i would still need the foam which is another $75.00.

I was actually looking around on CL for another parts bike to go along with it when i found the seat deal.

Dang, nice find.  Its been said before but we just don't see that kinda of deal here in the south and southwest.  They must have sold a zillion 750's and 550's in the mid west.

This is the type crap we find around here:
http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/2026845315.html
or almost as bad:
http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/2028325957.html

If you were just a little crazy you could spend $1050, buy both and have a total basket case with a suspect engine, a nice frame, no tank, no seat, rusty wheels and so fourth.  You get the picture.  Every once in a while something nice shows up, but the prices tend to be very high.

I wonder if it is because we ride year around and just rode them to death?
For $250 nice 750.  Great deal.

Although I think the Texas economy is *much* better or something -- there must be high enough demand there to get -- $725 for a few parts!  Ouch.  Here is 12.4% unemployment California, a recent Craigslist K0 cb750 that was had for $550:

The prior owner put on a later airbox and some fork stuff but I checked it, FRAME #  10387xx
ENGINE # 10388xx.  Has great compression, 42k miles, came with title+keys, no rust in tank, has
surface rust on the exterior, non-stock paint and pipes.

The issue is the money people have/don't have in their wallet to support their hobby.  You guys in TX are below 8% unemployment so I bet when a cool bike comes on for sale the seller gets lots of calls, then people set their prices to the market conditions.  The seller of the K0 only had 3 calls in the first few days.  Times is tough out in CA here.

Really nice find, I thought i got a good deal on my 78 at $850. Yeah, this is a great time to be buying bikes, and a bad time to be selling. There are some good deals out there if you have cash in hand and aren't in a hurry.

i hope you dont think im bragging to rub it in anyones face.  Ive sold parts from my 550 and 750 for very reasonable prices.  And am not trying to make a living selling old honda parts.   This hobby is just fun and its fun to see what kind of deals people come up with out there.  Ill try and tone it down :)

Hey, God bless ya for using your time , knowledge, etc to make a few bucks, it's the American way. I picked up some great deals on bikes this summer, the sellers were happy they sold, they had no better offers, I don't feel bad about it at all.

I'm not sure that 754 was implying that there is anything wrong with making a buck, but perhaps more bucks to be made if you don't share the deals we get sometimes, and then flip.

But for the record: I got a few things from Tango for my 550. The prices were beyond fair, and I was very happy to have found him. Then he went ahead and made the mistake of befriending me and has since answered about 7000 tedious questions :)

In my experience, I can certainly attest to the fact that he is a straight shooter, in parts sales or any other matter. And if he decides to express his enthusiasm about good deals, and we end up benefiting from his finds...more power to him!
