The black studded one makes me feel kind of funny. . . like when we used to climb the rope in gym class. :o

I will pass on those.

Thanks Ironbar, these photos should interest you and the other 500/550 guys.

This isn't finished, bit of sizing & finishing to go, but this is the 550 stack model.  The carb side sealing ring has had more radius added to firm up vertical positioning of the back plate.

Progress!

Looking at the part a question comes to mind, one that may be deserving of a conversation.  In the back of my mind I had envisioned a support for the finished air-box/cleaner which would be no more than hanging fingers extended to meet the backing plate at the cage mounting screw position.  So I could just use two longer screws to attach your backing plate at the top to a mount I'd fabricate, probably hanging straight down from the frame above.  So if I was going to do that I'd ask you the distance between the carb end of your boots to the recess in the boot where the mounting plate will reside.  That and the screw spacing and I could get to work on my end.

But then it occurs to me that I may not want to support the carbs on both ends.  I can envision strange harmonics and such - maybe turning the entire float chamber into one great big emulsion tube, who knows?  That said we are looking at some amount of unsupported weight hanging out there past the carbs and that might be deserving of attention.

Hi kong, good question.

The 750 & 550 stacks are 'beefed up' (slightly thicker body 750, sealing ring 550).  The filter its self is extremely light.  From my trial fittings on my 550, it is quite firm.  The back plate and stacks work together to provide this firm support.  On the 550 there will be no need for additional support, of that I am certain.  The 750, because of the additional stack length might benefit; but again I very much doubt it will be an issue.  However, there are already air box mounts on the 750 that could be used if needed.  One of the design goals was to keep things simple and clean, and avoid the need for extra little bits.

On an other note regarding oiling and cleaning.  According to ITG, unless you are regularly riding on dusty roads, you should only have to clean / oil it once per season.  During the season, a simple light wipe over the outside surface will remove light surface accumulation.  So oiling / cleaning for most will be an end of season storage prep. deal.  Milage is not a factor, the environment it is exposed to is.

1st set of 750 stacks finally arrived.  So I'll fit them to the back plate, that is waiting.  Then send the test kit off to Terry on Monday.  Will post photos of the kit with stacks fitted later in the weekend.  I expect to start getting feedback from Terry after the middle of the month.

Expect to post price and other details, later in next week.  Then place the 1st production order, and post an expected delivery time.

Thanks Brian, and I note that gnarlycharlie4U has a K7, will your stacks fit the K7's PD carbs? If so, that's great, I won't have to change the carbs on my F2 to suit the "Anti-Pod". Cheers, Terry. ;D

It has been my understanding Terry that the throat OD of the PD's, and the earlier carbs is the same.  I've been working with an earlier 750 set.  So yes, they would fit either.

I believe the O.D. on the 69-76 CB750's is 39mm as opposed to the 77 & 78's which are 42 mm.  I don't think they will fit either unless I am missing something.  I am interested in getting a setup that would fit the PD's if you make them.

Terry has both, so the answer will be known in about 2 weeks. ;) :)  I don't foresee an issue, but its the easiest one to resolve.  Hybrid stacks with different carb mounting ID's, are the easiest change to accommodate.

I was told the PD's would would fine with my stock K stuff, so i don't think there would be a problem with mounting PD's on a 750 and using TT's kit??

TT, I can paypal immediately when you're ready!  Unemployment finally started kicking in!! :)  do you forsee any problems with PD's on a '76k??  Anyone??

The PD's work fine on earlier K's (and F's) mate, the only problem previously was that the airbox was wider, so you'd crack your left sidecover before you realised what you'd done, (don't ask me how I know, but thank God for Frankenstuff!) but with Brian's "Anti-Pod" filter system, that'll no longer be a problem.

You'll need K7 or K8 rubber manifolds to fit the PD's to your head, but otherwise it's very straightforward, and I'd say that the F2/F3 PD's will give your stock K6 a bit more "grunt", and with the PD's accellerator pumps, you won't have any flat spots to worry about. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Couple of pictures of the filter kit going to Terry.

The 1st one is of the stuff going to Terry.  The filter has been pre-oil, and bagged.  The new 750 stacks are fitted to the back plate, and the bag contains the clamps, and bolts.  The two spacers are to try different filter heights.

Carb side of back plate.  Gave it a very quick buff. ;)

Damn Brent, you've uncovered my cunning plan! Ha ha, well in honor of Brian's hard work I've stripped my K1 down to the bare frame so I can paint it and do some re-modelling while I'm at it, so by the time the "Anti-Pod" kit arrives, I'll have a shiny new (albeit 40 year old) bike to install it on! Cheers, Terry. ;D
